Do you shred your own cheese instead of buying it shredded?

We do both depending on the dish and the need for convenience.

+1 For making quick dishes like scrambled eggs, quesadillas, or eating tacos at home, we do use shredded cheese. For other dishes, especially homemade mac and cheese or anything I would serve to others, I shred my own. It's cheaper and melts better.

I don't have a big food processor, so I use the Presto Salad shooter to grate cheese. I absolutely love it!

Yes, it's cheaper and tastes better. I just use a regular metal grater. My food processor also has a grating attachment, but it's easier to use the metal grader.

Micro plane makes best graters. And kitchenaid grader attachment is amazing

Yes, buy the big blocks of cheddar at costco and shred with a microplaner for small amounts and the box grater for a large amount. It's a noticeable taste difference.

Yes. I use a box grater.

We started shredding our own once I realized the anti-clumping agent is sawdust (cellulose)

Same

I have a box grater for larger amounts and a microplane for smaller amounts. It melts better if you grate it yourself, and it tastes better.

We usually shred our own. If I need a big batch, I use my food processor with a shredding plate. Otherwise I have a box grater, a single grater (large), or two different sized Microplanes. I also have a parmesan/hard cheese hand crank grater.

Me too.

As someone who lost 50 pounds and has kept it off, I rarely eat cheese (my former WW leader said cheese was an occasional food, not an every day food).

That being said, I have teens in the house who devour cheese items (quesadillas, Mac n Cheese, pasta with cheese on top, cheesy eggs, etc.). Their palets are not refined, and they are way too lazy to shred their own cheese. I buy it shredded

Generally shred myself on a box grater, except for mozzarella which I often can’t find in a block, only pre shredded.

Fresh mozz is the most worthwhile cheese to shred, imo. I have the Italian Market nearby but I think Giant sells the fresh balls of mozzarella.

I always shred for mac and cheese and nachos. If I'm using cheese on my egg, burger, tacos, or similar type of dishes I just use pre-shredded.
