DC School Bus Driver

Last time I checked, the bus drivers seat is the one you go by a few feet from at front of bus.
Yes, most would have handled this better and your teachers and chaperones missed it.. Sorry.

That is not even remotely true. I have been around a number of alcoholics in my life. When I was in criminal defense, I once had a client fail a breathalyzer in court by an incredible margin and you would have never guessed her BAC was that high just by talking to her face to face.

There is no way these parents or teachers would knowingly allow a drunk person to drive a busload of children. It is foolish to believe otherwise.

I'm not suggesting they knowing knew he was drunk and allowed him to drive. You are.
I'm suggesting the chaperones should have been more aware of their surroundings and that they missed it.

Yep alcoholics will pass as normal with a very high BAC. The pp who thinks they could have seen he was drunk would not have.

I doubt any chaperone including yourself would talk to the driver. You really should try thinking before you post.

What do you mean I am? I am saying exactly the opposite. You wrote, "If someone was that drunk, the smell would be obvious once you walked past them." You then went on to say that you have to walk past the driver when you get on the bus. So, according to you, the adults walked past a guy who they could tell obviously smelled drunk and did nothing. If you believe that, you don't know Murch parents or teachers.

FCPD Captain Rachel Levy said 48-year-old Troy Reynolds, of Oxon Hill, Md., was behind the wheel of the bus when he drove off the road, struck a rock, damaged a rim and flattened a rear tire. That's when the adults on the bus could tell something was wrong and requested Reynolds pull over, she added. He then stopped the bus in a parking lot in Chantilly...

..Responding officers reported that Reynolds smelled of alcohol. Reynolds had a blood-alcohol level of .20, Levy said. The legal limit in Virginia is .08. Police also found that he was in possession of a fraudulent medical card. Reynolds Reynolds was charged with driving while intoxicated, commercial DWI with child endangerment, and nine counts of gross, wanton, or reckless care for a child. His license was found to be revoked in Virginia from a prior DWI and suspended in Maryland, police said and e was also found in possession of a fraudulent medical card.

The [b]field trip required two buses
to transport the students. Following the incident, an additional bus was called to pick up the stranded kids, but that driver was found to not have the correct license to be driving the bus, Levy said.

After some investigating, Levy said that both of the busses that weren't driven by Reynolds were also placed out of service for safety violations, and the two additional bus drivers were also cited for not having valid commercial driver's licenses. Officers assigned to Fairfax County's Motor Carrier Safety (MCS) unit also responded to assist with the investigation and found a total of 18 safety violations between the two buses transporting the children on the field trip.

Wow better think twice about signing that field trip form.

You are suggesting they were negligent. Yes?

I don't think the parents/ chaperone would knowingly allow a drunk to drive them or their children.
I do think they were unacceptably unaware of their surroundings and could/ should have stopped this prior to the bus driving away.
That's the whole point of being a chaperone.

Additionally, its reported that the parents told the bus driving to "follow the other bus to Chantilly" instead of not moving any further after going off road and hitting the rock.

It's reported that the adults told the driver to stop driving after he hit the rock.
