DC School Bus Driver

Anonymous
So a DC school bus driver was fall down drunk (blew a 2.0 BAC), ran off the road with a bus load of kids and adults?!

And he had a previous DWI?!

And the adults on the bus didn't stop him driving the bus with kids?!

And the 2 backup DC schools bus drivers sent to drive the bus were stopped/ cited for not having the proper license to drive the bus?!

UFB!

The adults did stop him once they realized he was drunk.

“The staff realized once he’d driven off the road and caused that damage to the bus that something was wrong,

I wonder how they would have jumped to the conclusion something was wrong. They must be rocket scientists.

The driver was stopped by the adults only after he veered off the road, struck a rock, and blew a tire.

Do you routinely give your bus driver a breathalyzer when getting on the bus?

When I was a chaperone, I absolutely would keep my eyes open to threats to the children I was responsible for and recognizing an extremely intoxicated bus driver falls into that category. The police smelled the guy reeking of alcohol, the adults should have too and acted upon it before he started to drive.

It's your belief that the adults knowingly allowed a drunk guy to drive them and their children around? Obviously they weren't aware that he was intoxicated and acted to stop him as soon as they realized it.

After he had driven off the road. Very astute of them. Not all heroes wear capes. /s

Its my belief that the adults should have proactively noticed he was fall down drunk which I think is very reasonable .
I also think DC schools should have not let individuals with prior DWIs drive school buses with children on board.
Or allow bus drivers without proper licensing drive.

I do give the parents credit to call 911 vs. keeping quiet and try to resolve themselves.

It was not a "DC school bus." It was a chartered bus, being driven by an employee of Rome Charters LLC.

I never checked the bus drivers breath. They were usually in their seat before we got on the bus so the falling down part would be harder to notice.

I really do challenge you Monday morning quarterbacks to have handled this better. The teachers and chaperones did a great job.

If someone was that drunk, the smell would be obvious once you walked past them.
Last time I checked, the bus drivers seat is the one you go by a few feet from at front of bus.
Yes, most would have handled this better and your teachers and chaperones missed it.. Sorry.
