+1 People like Silverman never think through the full implications of their silly ideas. |
+1. Restrict availability of paid family leave to DC residents only. As a DC resident and taxpayer, I am okay with that, especially as it would encourage workers in DC businesses to live in the city (where they will also be taxpayers . . ). Let Virginia and Maryland pass their own leave acts to benefit workers who reside in their jurisdictions. Doing it that way will eventually result in a federal paid leave initiative, which is where it should reside anyway. |
This is disingenuous at best. The project protects DC residents. Why don't you mention that? All employment policies are residence agnostic. Do you know any business that has one paid sick day policy for DC residents and another for non-residents? Do companies give a different number of paid vacation days based on residence? Of course not. If you think that mothers should return to work immediately after giving birth or that employees should not be allowed paid time off to care for ill family members, just say so. Be honest about what you are opposing. |
One implication is small businesses that relocate or incorporate elsewhere. |
