Any buzz at NCS or STA as to why Al and Tipper Gore are splitting?

Maybe you can reach an easy and convivial 'arrangement'--but stay married? That's what I don't understand--so what if they were living separate lives; touch base every now and then and don't be alone when you're sick...

He does seem a pompous ass though; the scary thought is that now he's 'on the market'!!

Gee, maybe I'm old fashioned, but I thought forever meant forever, not "unless I get bored," or "unless we grow apart," etc. etc. If that's all it is (not an affair, or abuse, or something equally serious), then the Gores are just demonstrating the self-centeredness and entitlement of the typical liberal -- putting themselves before the sacredness of an institution -- marriage -- that is worth preserving not only because it is sacred (or is supposed to be), but because it is so important to the fabric of our society.

Good lord, he went to STA 40+ years ago. You can't honestly think that anyone there knows the inside scoop on the Gore's private lives.

Yes, only liberals get divorced.

My son laughed and said his classmates at STA talk only about the people currently at the school (and at NCS!). None of the kids there care about the Gores.

Self centeredness and entitlement of the typical liberal? I guess you consider conservatives like South Carolina Governor Mark "I Love Argentina" Sanford, Newt "I left my Cancer-Stricken Wife" Gingrich and Sen. John "I Left My Physically Disabled Wife for a Trophy Mistress" to be the REAL moral authorities. LOL!

Who are you to say what marriage should be for anyone other than yourself? Many people believe in the commitment of marriage, yet do not see it at "sacred". Don't project your values on others.

Arguing that marriage is worth preserving because it is "sacred" is tautological.

The argument also begs the question (by assuming the truth of the matter) whether divorces work against "preserving" the institution of marriage; it is not clear that divorce has the effect that the PP presupposes.

Also we should note it's the liberal blue states that have lower divorce rates and the conservative red states that are leaders in divorce. I would have to say that it looks more like it's conservatives who have a problem with the sanctity of marriage.

Not to mention, divorce rates are highest in red states.

Can we go ahead and move this thread to the Politics forum now?

Only on DCUM . . . desperately trying to intertwine news of the Gore separation with STA/NCS. I guess I should not be surprised, as this thread reflects the 3 favorite obsessions in this town -- sex, politics and . . . the Cathedral schools.

Isn't Sidwell one of this town's favorite obesessions? Or do you include Sidwell under "sex" or "politics"?

Funny pp. I started the thread for fun. I don't think 12:21 has a sense of humor at all.

For the people trying to argue whether reds or blues have more divorces...isn't that ridiculous? So many people get divorced...it certainly crosses party lines.

I can't believe that someone would even start a thread on this topic. It is even more unbelievable as to how many people responded. If anything, it shows the true fiber of the STAL community.
