Rant with me- Losing my mind with sicknesses already

There is no reason to delay flu shots till October so that it can last till March. Your kids will mostly fall ill in Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec - when school opens, and when there is much holiday travelling.

It all calms down by Jan, Feb, March - because people get immunity. So, don't wait for your flu vaccine.

I didn't want to wait! We always see the pediatrician for an annual check up in late August/early September, but they didn't have flu shots this year, and then my kid got Covid the middle of September and was too sick to get a flu shot until October.

I'd love to get them early but sometimes they are hard to track down in August. Usually by mid-september we can find them for all of us. It's frustrating because August would be easier since it's before school and activities start.

My kids always get the flu in March/April. This year I am waiting until November with the flu shot.

Rounding up my kids to go to Kaiser permanente for flu shots during their limited hours is a struggle. We don’t live close. I know I should just go to CVS but it’s like $100+ for us.

I thought flu shots were free?

They’re only free if you have insurance. If you have Kaiser you have to get shots at Kaiser

I feel you, I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old and they’ve both been sick on and off for about a month. Because of Covid/closures/etc. it’s my 3 year old’s first year in school although his brother definitely brought home illnesses in the past. They’ve both missed 3 days of school this year and it’s only mid-October, and we were at the doctor today for ear infections in both of them. They both have September birthdays and both were able to get their flu shots at their regular checkups which was good, but it’s obviously not helping against whatever’s going around now.

We tried to warn you to keep masking and taking precautions...hope everyone feels better soon.

Nice try but not only did my child contract covid last school year while everyone was masked, but both of my kids caught colds this year while wearing masks.

I suppose I could just homeschool but I'd rather my kids develop functional immune systems through exposure in childhood like they are supposed to.

Or it could be that we spent 2 years “wearing masks” and “taking precautions” (whatever that means, anyway), and our immune systems weren’t challenged at all and now we’re paying the price with all the sicknesses at once …

1. Camp for all of the planned school holidays
2. Can you flex your hours so you work after DH gets home? Maybe he can take a few hours of leave and come home early? If you are working from home, why are you taking leave at all?

How are you defining "sick"?

And if they're feeling well enough to destroy your house and go crazy then maybe they're not that sick (assuming no fever or uncontrollable cough).

Just saying that if you're staying home fir every runny noe to completely go away you'll never be in school

Have them wear a mask too.

^^I don't really understand this really weak excuse. Most of us had covid abd it that doesn't challenge the money system then I don't know what does.

That included staying home from camp this summer too. I also tend to be more liberal on sending my kids to school so they aren’t staying home for just a runny nose. Name the illness and one of my kids has it. One even had chicken pox though she was vaccinated against it.

Also, I can’t attribute it to being masked up as neither of my older kids were required to mask in daycare and as someone who worked for FEMA, I was still in the office during covid.

We had a stint like this several years ago (pre-pandemic). The kids kept bringing awful plagues home from daycare. Norovirus, pink eye and HFM in the same week? Oh yeah. Nothing like puking your guys out while your eyes ooze and your mouth sores burn.

We were out so much we were in jeopardy at work. It was hurting our careers and sanity. We got a nanny and pulled the kids from daycare. The plagues stopped immediately and we have just had a normal amount of illnesses since. There's no medal for sticking with daycare. Consider alternatives.

+2

Every year there are these spikes of kids getting sick. It's nothing new.

I remember DS's 1st grade class had only 10 kids (out of 25) in class b/c everyone was out sick..
Happens every year.

Nix the pediatritian. You get the shots at walgreens or cvs. Walk in and out.
