Why are most FCPS emails not about academics

The superintendent or school board members are focused on policy issues b/c that's their job. Your child's teacher is focused on the academic messages b/c that's his/her job.

Uh huh. Wouldn’t it be if leadership worked harder on supporting the teachers instead of the BS they are doing?

My kids are learning academics just fine. I am guessing you have no kids in FCPS but do spend your time watching Fox News.

They do support teachers. Addressing school environments helps kids learn and is important, too.

The central office is sending emails to all families from preK-12--information about academics that is meaningfully targeted to the level of the student make more sense to come from the teacher primarily, the school occasionally.

This. How exactly are they supposed to send a brief, readable but relevant email about academics that covers everything from preK-12?

The lack of critical thinking skills of some posters is fascinating.
Emails about academics should come from your kid’s teacher.

No FCPS admins can talk about how they are increasing rigor. They can toot their horn about various testing results. They can say how various philosophies increase educational outcomes. They can say what policies they have implemented have resulted in increased student outcomes.

Or they can send out the email today about how firearms storage is SUPER important.

Mine have to go take classes outside of school because the bar is set so low. The tutoring industry around here is making a killing off parental anxiety.

It’s just strange to get an email from the school about firearm storage. The pediatrican, maybe but not the school. I’d like to hear more about things like phonics that apparently they are starting to teach again. Why they are no longer using the DRA for reading levels. Things like that.

Lol I can’t even train your kids to bring all their materials to class, but go off king.

It is super imoprtant: to avoid accidental deaths at home and to keep firearms away from minors who can take them to school. It was only a BB gun, but I am sure the issue at marshall prompted the email.
Get some perspective.

FCPS This Week always covers academics and individual school spotlights. Special emails like the firearms are just that...special issue.

I just wish they wouldn’t worry about everything else we as parents are worrying about and stick to academics so we as parents don’t need to worry about that!

This makes total sense because these issues never affect academics or school environments.

You voters only care about social justice and constant updates regarding equity etc. Why send any emails about mere academics when that gets you zero attention or votes?
Anonymous
Because FCPS does not care about Education.

Oh, nonsense. Most FCPS communications are about academics. Some communications, however, reflect values with which OP disagrees, so rather than take that head on and explain what values FCPS espouses that OP disagrees with, the fall-back is to complain there's not enough focus on academics.

If FCPS's communications were entirely about academics, the odds are high OP would never read them.

It's not hard, you talk about recent policy changes or funding that will improve outcomes. You tout academic victories.

Anything else frames the view that academics aren't the priority.
