Why are most FCPS emails not about academics

I swear if heard about everything but school theses past two weeks.

I hear you ... but also, you are getting emails from the upper levels of the district, so they are talking about big-picture policy. They leave the academic stuff to your kid's teacher to communicate to you.

The superintendent or school board members are focused on policy issues b/c that's their job. Your child's teacher is focused on the academic messages b/c that's his/her job.

Academics have been a very low priority in fcps for the last 3 years, since the new school board won 100% partisan dominance.

The priority is political issues. Not academic excellence.

Because FCPS is not about academics.

Because academics are not changing from day to day. What do you want them to email you about? Teachers give yiu the details of your child’s learning. The FCPS website has tons of information about curriculum and academics. Stop being a sheep, OP.

It's a community, OP.

It is about academics when it pertains to student rights and mental health. Students having anxiety about their learning environment do poorer in academics.

We're in MCPS and their central office emails are also never abut academics.

Academics are hard.

The central office is sending emails to all families from preK-12--information about academics that is meaningfully targeted to the level of the student make more sense to come from the teacher primarily, the school occasionally.

Ok, I’ll take an hour of my day that yesterday you wanted me to use for grading and send an email about “academics” which is not vague at all.

This. How exactly are they supposed to send a brief, readable but relevant email about academics that covers everything from preK-12?

The lack of critical thinking skills of some posters is fascinating.
Emails about academics should come from your kid’s teacher.

Agree, OP's implied expectation is absurd and displays a complete lack of understanding of school system.

What's more, they do occasionally share academics-related notifications that are actually appropriate to broadcast county-wide such as student awards and scholarships and such (obvi skewed towards later in the year), AAP awareness, county-wide tutoring service, etc.

But most of it is going to be about logistics, budgets, social issues, etc. that are relevant to a county-wide audience. Most academic info is going to come from (at best) your school but more realistically your teacher, as one would reasonably expect.
