Not pp, but I like the tubs of Miso Master. I've bought them at Mom's. I like the red miso. My kids prefer the milder light colored one. They last a long time. |
Yes, agree. Full of saturated fat. Coconut oil went through some kind of trendy phase a few years back where it was touted as a healthy oil, and while it's tasty, it's actually pretty bad for you so the tides turned on that. And I agree with the PP who avoids many vegan cheeses because of their ingredients. I personally loathe them because they are usually pretty gross and not actually good for you (full of coconut fats). I eat plant-based the vast majority of the time, but cheese is one thing where I eat the dairy version, just eat it very sparingly. |

I usually hate fake meat, but the Trader Joe's soyrizo is delicious. I tried a couple other brands and they aren't very good--fry the soyrizo up until it's crispy and it's very much like pork chorizo.
Also, the best (IMHO) fake butter is the Smart Balance -- but do NOT get the one with Omega added or it tastes fishy when you fry it. I've made a very nice apply brown betty that is vegan using smart balance instead of butter. |
I generally get mine at the Asian stores like Hmart or Lotte. They have multiple brands and I'll usually get one that's on sale - Hakari is a brand name I can think of. For a miso newbie, I recommend getting the mild white miso, then progress to the darker ones. |
We LOVE the soyrizo! |
Where do they keep it? I asked if they had vegan cheese and they said no. Wondering where to find it. |
Go to a Japanese grocery store. It will be in the fridge or even the freezer, in plastic containers. Much better than American brands. |
Opps. I guess it isn't vegan. It has whey in it...but it is still amazing! It is by the rest of the bags of shredded cheese |
YES!! Im not vegan, but avoid meat mostly. This stuff is amazing! It is so flavorful that a little goes a long way. |
| Is the TJs soyrizo in the frozen section?? I might have to try it out... |
| I made avocado toast this morning for the first time. I took an avocado, cubed it, added salt, basil, thyme and a little lime juice and mashed it. I shredded it on toasted bread and deem it a success. |
| The whole point of vegan food is to largely avoid processed foods and eat vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains and legumes. |
No, in my TJ is is by the refrigerated tofu and tempeh |
| The TJ's soy chorizo is really good -- and gives me a hangover headache the next day, probably from a ton of MSG. That's probably why it's so good, but I'm over it. |
Just went to Trader Joe's. They have several kinds -- one is the one you mentioned (it has milk protein?? Something...) but they have two others that are vegan. Unfortunately they each have something we can't eat (yeast extract and something else) so I didn't get any of them. I did get the 365 "Plant-Based Mozzarella-Style Cheese Alternative" from WF. It has a strange taste out of the bag -- like Mozzarella-flavored cotton candy, or those jelly beans that are flavored like regular food. Can't put my finger on it. I made some cheese toast and it did melt, although it was not at all stringy. It's passable though. I'm going to try to make something with it. |
