Anyone watch the documentary about college hazing on PBS?

I know I can’t stop my DD from joining a sorority, but I won’t be paying her fees. DH was in a frat and he agrees.

I wasn’t in a sorority but some of my friends were and they never talked about hazing. And none of the sororities on campus were disciplined for it either. I do remember them having a really busy and sleep deprived week or two as freshmen when they were spending a lot of time at the houses before initiation but that was it.

Fraternities definitely hazed and it was dangerous. Same with the marching band. The historically Black Greek orgs had bad problems with hazing, both sororities and fraternities, but they kept all their problems VERY quiet and under the radar of the university as a whole.

No, you're not missing anything. I just linked it so you could see what it was called and watch a brief preview.

Is this primarily a large school thing? I went to a very small school and really never heard anything like this going on.

How small is "very small?"

Here is a list of Hazing deaths--and these are just DEATHS, not every instance or even instances that ended in injury.

There are all kind of schools there--Big schools, small schools, public schools, private schools, Ivy league, HBUC....

How can you refuse an adult to make a decision for them.

My DD currently at a state school in GA and in a sorority has NEVER been hazed.

The frats are not free. Parents pay for these groups to abuse the new kids.

It's a secret usually and kids can't speak of the hazing. Don't let your kids join these groups. It's unhealthy.

I know an older man who has permanent injuries to his testicles from a fraternity hazing. He couldn't tell and so he didn't to a doctor. I'm not sure it could have been healed. Sick.

3500 undergrads. And also I'm a girl. This list is almost entirely men. Men are idiots with terrible judgement.

The size of the school doesn't matter. It's done in secret so they don't get caught.

It isn't just men, the sororities are full of mean girls. Even if the abuse is mental, freshman suffer depression from hazing.
