I was expecting a paper that said where the kids classrooms were and was surprised to find it was a brochure on how much the Democratic party supports teachers and school funding.

The current 12-0 Democratic School Board pays next to no attention to enrollment trends or sound facilities planning. They’re a bunch of useless political hacks already aiming for other offices (like Karl Frisch) and need to be voted out next year.

The local GOP committee didn't even call for them to step away from the campaign: https://wjla.com/news/local/stephanie-lundquist-arora-candidate-running-republican-gop-fairfax-county-school-board-race-drops-out-laughing-autistic-student-meeting-singing-national-anthem-controversy-7news-reporting-nick-minock-harry-jackson-youngkin-glenn-fcps

Both parties do this.

Yes, both parties do this. Our school still does BTSN on zoom so I forgot about this until this post. They used to hand out flyers that looked like calendars and say "Do you want a school calendar?" Then when you take it and turn it over, it is a political ad on the other side.

One time I pretended to talk on my cell phone walking into the school just to avoid them. These political parties are always very aggressive and disappointing they are allowed at BTSN.

And it's legal, and no one is going to force anyone to take a flyer. Just like on election days, if you don't want to engage, please keep walking. No one will tackle you.

It's not the school board elections that really bring them (both parties) there, folks. It's the bigger picture--the upcoming VA elections, to elect all 11 of our Representatives to Congress. These days, whichever way you vote, it's a pretty important election, so getting the word out is important. And again, legal to do at BTSNs.

We cast our vote in the schools, doesn’t seem that much of a jump to get political flyers at BTSN. Both parties were handing out flyers at ours, Dems were better organized.

I refuse to take any fliers from any political party. This year was de D, last year the R were at the ES. It’s inappropriate.

I laughed in a guy's face when I saw his flier.

Classy. But expected from a dem. ☺️

Both parties do this; sometimes it is individual officeholders handing out flyers about themselves.
I saw Democratic Party had a staging area inside the voting precinct which was a high school.

Who exactly made this legal?

FCPS regulations (actually Reg quoted in an earlier post) which, in turn, have to be in line with Virginia Code of Law. Outside groups are allowed to share fliers at Back to School Night events. Can they stand there at arrival on a regular school day or on the morning of a graduation ceremony or on school property while people are coming for a basketball game? No. But once a year, they can come to a Back to School Night.

no it isn’t. Both are community responsibilities. It is something that has been done since I was in school in the dark ages of the 1970’s. Local community events are places where people who want to represent their constituents can actually meet their constituents.

There was a LONG line to the single entrance at our ES BTSN. I dutifully joined the line, and was infuriated to realize once I was near the entrance that the line (and delay to enter the school) was caused by the political parties handing out their flyers. The people around me in line were also annoyed; we were all late for the classroom presentations despite having arrived in time. It was pretty obnoxious of both parties. And it's obnoxious that they are handing out flyers that go immediately into the recycling bin...so wasteful!
