What happened to the ring of puppy thieves they caught? Have they received serious sentences? These DC "jackings" of cars, of loved ones, are abominable. We need to stop tolerating theft in this city, whether it's a metro ride, an item from CVS, a dog, a car, someone physical boundaries (rape, assault). Violation is just normed here. Poor dog, poor owner. So so sorry that this was the outcome, hopefully the investigation and prosecution go somewhere.

When you intertwine petty matters such as not paying fare for a metro ride or swiping a tube of toothpaste from a national chain drug store, you lessen the impact of your message. Why water down your own argument ?

DC has normalized crime. And then someone helps themself to your dog AND kills it because they are the same kind of ass-hat that unthinkingly jumps a turnstyle or helps themself to chips at CVS. Stupid is as stupid does, bit there is a sociopathy underlying it that the city is unwilling to address. People like you consider violation in degrees. Violation is violation. There are different penalties by degree, but currently people waltz around doing...whatever. Including dognapping and killing Horrible. We are 5 steps away from the express kidnappings of loved one in Mexico. And yes, I WILL move from the city and join the 'pearl clutchers. F this. I love my kids and dogs.

It amazes me that people are outraged about crime.

THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR!

You elected every one of the people that have brought this to you. All of them. You’re getting the city you deserve. Embrace it.

Well, no. I always vote Republican or middle independent, but DC is set up so middle of the roaders (which is most DC Republicans) are disenfranchised. That's why I support Congressional oversight--at least there is occasionally a counterweight to our loony Council.

I would love it if Congress took over control of DC. Anything would be an improvement over our city council.

Why would you kill it when you could sell it? That makes no sense

There is a strong link between those who kill and torture animals and moving on to murdering people.

There is a silent agreement in our "society" or among our politicians that these are anger issues that are caused by injustice/inequity. Those unhinged or fearless enough to let their anger out upon peaceful citizens are victims deserving compassion and not criminals. The price to pay to allow them to "heal" through unleashing violence and letting it all out, is occasional deaths and injuries of random innocent people. This is the world we live in, get used to it.

Do you know what they do to child kidnappers who are caught in Mexico? They set them on fire in public squares without trial - mob rule. I would think our dimwitted politicians would choose to awaken and take measure before we become like Mexico.

If people move out and stores are forced to shut down or raise prices significantly to cover their losses from theft, DC’s political leaders will eventually get the message.

There are many enough examples of cities that had become blighted and turned into disinvested swaths "unlivable" for higher bracket taxpayers with a few small pockets where people still feel safe to go out at night as long as they don't stray away from a few blocks that are well policed and monitored by private security hired by the local businesses, hotels, tourist venues. What exactly prevents DC from falling back into its old ways?

You think they didn't get the message? What if they just don't care or cannot do anything walking on thin ice of woke politics and equitable housing for all? They aren't creating affordable housing options, they are just letting tent cities proliferate and handing out section 8 vouchers

Like the Starbucks in Union Station for example?

They were too stupid to keep a dog alive. Those are the criminals you are dealing with.

Just wait until Charles Allen basically decriminalizes everything with his crime "reform" bill.
