Any study of brand awareness that places JHU #1 in 3 of 4 areas of the US and does not include Harvard among the top 5 in any of the 4 areas of the US is a flawed study that is hard to take seriously.

You're still missing the point. It's NOT about popularity, quality, outcomes, brand awareness, etc. It's about whether someone "trusts" a university, which is completely subjective and not based on data or facts. And the poll included right wing Republicans and of course they highly distrust Harvard, UC Berkeley, etc. JHU probably comes out so well because people, conservative and liberal, are impressed by it's great medical research and the fame of its hospital.

Turns out, the trust they’re measuring is political - Dems and Pubs. Read the first box. In that context, they note that religious schools are less polarizing. Essentially, this study is nonsense for understanding academic quality.

Just keep in mind that all these rating posts are about someone trying to promote their school. Typically, they don’t like their school’s ranking in USNWR, so they go fishing for alternative rankings that place their school higher.

Right. The people most obsessed with rankings are those hoping to find one where the school beats expectations. There’s nothing like getting into a lower ranked school but being able to say “it’s rising fast.” People are trying to makes themselves feel better.
