Another 18yo foisted upon Ward 3 DC voters

Anonymous
Op several people have asked - why don’t you run? Otherwise don’t complain that nobody else is running

Still though young Mr. R decided to put his views out there on his Twitter feed, so that is the issue, not his age. Very anti-Goulet and scornful of Mendelson, who both won his district very heavily. Most of it is Spring Valley precinct 9 where Mendelson got 75% and Goulet beat his Council candidate handily. Tipping got 58% there in 2018, this candidate takes the opposite position. Yet so far he has no opposition, his neighbors are still napping...

Yeah they are mostly too old and incompetent.

I don’t see a problem with someone running just because they’re 18. It’s pretty ageist to think otherwise. Many 18yo are tax-paying citizens who lives are affected by public policy.

It’s not ageist to point out someone is too inexperienced. It’s just a fact.

ANCs have no power. They are pointless as currently constituted. I think it's great that an 18 year old has decided to volunteer. At the very least they can provide tech support for the boomers.

He is still in high school - here he says he will graduate in 2023 (about 20% down from top) - http://dc.granicus.com/TranscriptViewer.php?clip_id=6940

That’s not true. A project l was on for work was significantly impacted by an ANC.

Yeah, the zoom meeting will actually run semi-efficiently. Maybe we should have a rule where there is at least one kid on every ANC.

It's America. He's of age. If you don't like him, run against him.

Crusty NIMBYs throwing ignorant and bigoted shade at young people seeking to participate in local politics is utterly pathetic. If the OP doesn't like it, please find your way to a retirement village where you won't have to encounter any young people who are not employed there to help you function.

He is not being foisted upon everyone if noone else runs.

The title should be "18 yo is the only candidate for position"

Since you care so much, get off your arse and run.

It’s ageist to to say that 18yos are “foisted” on us, or to believe that all 18 you are too young, since the OP also says “another.” Wouldn’t you say that of all 18yos because they are “inexperienced?” Personally there are a lot of experienced, shady @holes in our government, so there are a lot people I would vote for instead—if they were smart, ready to listen to community, and I felt they were better for the job. Inexperienced people are hired every day in this country.

Eh another ward had a guy in jail win the election. Good for him.

If this 18 yr old is the only one who wants to run, well good for him. At least he is trying.
