I just wanted to respond to the bolded as an aside. I'm not a war vet but my dad and FIL are. I don't react as you do to people not standing for the flag--or the anthem, the pledge of allegiance, or whatever. I celebrate the fact that as an American, I don't [b]have[/b] to engage in any performative (to me) nationalistic/patriotic expression.Isn't it wonderful that I can choose whether or not to stand for the flag?! Because I have lived in countries where you better stand up or else... Let's not measure each other's patriotism by outward displays such as standing for the flag. Nationalism of any kind is dangerous in my book. I have seen too much of it in countries with a loose grip on democracy. [/quote]

Ok, Im not sure why youre lecturing me since I clearly say freedom of speech is a good part of our society. I can still be irritated with people that dont appear to agree with the baseline concept of the goodness of America. I wont want them to rot in a foreign prison, but I will be irritated.
