Pottery barn kids backpacks

To be the fair, I think the concern is that the kid will get tired of getting made fun of (potentially) and then not want to carry the expensive backpack that he chose, which could create some problems that OP is trying to head off. OP, if you can stick to the rule that if you buy it, he has to use it for the entire year and that's it, then I say go for it. If you're worried that he'll wear you out for a new one if he decides he doesn't want it anymore for whatever reason, then hold firm now. Get him something with the theme.

My grown 50 yo husband has Star Wars decorations all over his office. Whenever I go in there I ask how this affects his meetings with clients because I think he looks like a crazy man child. He says people like them and I am the strange one for not understanding. So I think it’s fine for your 3rd grader.

^i will say, for my own kids I refused to buy themed backpacks because they are too expensive if they change their mind. I would compromise and buy something neutral and then they could get whatever theme they wanted for a lunchbox, water bottle and pencil case.

+1 if your child wants it then they are into it and not too babyish. Don’t give the kid a complex. Also the PB ones are somewhat subtle. My ds had a Star Wars one that lasted k-3. He wanted a change so we gave it away and our neighbor still uses it

My kids had PB backpacks 4th grade and then switched to PBTeen, and now are getting North Face this year.

I just got the tie dyed one (she picked it out) for my fourth grader. SHe had a smaller PB backpack she used from PK 3-3rd grade and she is so hard on her stuff and it held up shocklinly well. Worth the price.

We have a family rule against character backpacks
PB backpacks are awesome and have lasted 6 years so far and going strong

Yeah so? What does that have to do with a star wars backpack? You're that mom who only cares about brand, aren't you? Newsflash: PB is trash, it was maybe popular 5 years ago, but now wealthy parents wouldn't be caught dead buying pottery barn for their children.

+1 my DS had the star wars backpack in 3rd grade the kids literally don't care about this stuff same goes for clothes and shoes too. Its always the PARENTS who are super obsessed about what their kid and other kids are wearing!!

Yep - the only time I see this being an issue is if a parent says something about it and their kid parents it. But since when is Star Wars baby-ish? I'm 45 and still love Star Wars.
