[/quote] To be the fair, I think the concern is that the kid will get tired of getting made fun of (potentially) and then not want to carry the expensive backpack that he chose, which could create some problems that OP is trying to head off. OP, if you can stick to the rule that if you buy it, he has to use it for the entire year and that's it, then I say go for it. If you're worried that he'll wear you out for a new one if he decides he doesn't want it anymore for whatever reason, then hold firm now. Get him something with the theme.[/quote]
