Has anyone else had it with Georgetown?

Yes. And I have had it with HYP! The audacity of them having high standards for admission.

And then when you're accepted, you have to deal with crumbling, moldy, rodent-infested dorms. Why bother?

Their prerogative.
Restrictive REA is truly awful on so many levels.
Their prerogative.
Helps make the decision easy

You realize this is what all colleges, or at least the top ones, used to require, right?

Mine would have loved to apply. But between the restrictive application policy (which is truly awful given the very difficult cycles these kids are facing) and their demands for all test scores - my kids have had it. Both have what it takes to succeed there. But my first and now my second are not willing to ruin what was left of HS to get there. Straight As in AP courses not enough for you? Opting for mental health over College Board nonsense by skipping a few AP exams? Please. My next one feels the same way. These two are great students - never had anything less than an A or A-, fantastic ECs that reflect their commitment to serving others for years, stellar LORs, tons of the R word - RIGOR. Not pointy for Ivies. But they are out - of the G-town rat race. And no - that's not a Georgetown troll talking - it's an honest frustration for their policies.

Are you from the Midwest or something? Most locals don’t want go there anyway.

What’s wrong with skipping the AP tests for Georgetown more than other schools? They recommend taking the tests but don’t require, rt? Nor do they require AP scores, I think. Please correct me if I have this wrong. Thanks!

Well I guess when I post snark I will receive it. I realize I am venting so I apologize for any offense. Anyone living through the 2021 and 2022 cycle will understand that it was hard on all students. They will all find their place, and I wish you all the best.

It was hard on all students not just yours OP. Your kids will find their place, and if somewhere that "emphasizes" tests isn't their place, so be it. There are plenty of great colleges out there.

OP here - absolutely agree, it was hard on all students. Mine are the lucky ones. Totally agree with you.

I’d argue that disclosing all test scores, instead of cherry picking, shows a better representation of what a student is capable of and helps drives down the rat race of sitting for the SAT 3 times. Also, TEA is no different than ED which plenty of colleges offer. The impression I get from their requirements is that Gtown wants students who truly want them, which *should* make the process more reliable for all (they aren’t getting applicants who just want to check the box on applying to lots if ivies/ivy-adjacents or who throw in an application because they can check another box on Common App).

Yup I understand.
REA however is quite different than ED.

mYes REA is different than ED- ED is more restrictive for the applicant. If Gtown is REA, I still am not sure what OP is complaining about specifically with respect to Gtown.

So in practice, how does that actually work, requiring all test scores?

Do they make you sign something to the effect of "please disclose all my test scores" and then contact the College Board to obtain them?

Georgetown does not require AP scores. However, Georgetown will only consider AP scores via official score report, which includes all AP scores. So if you want them to see one, they see them all, as a practical matter.

This is a "life isn't fair" post.

So what if Georgetown has higher standards for application? Every school can make their own choices--you choose to apply or you don't. The whining about it on dcum makes me think that you're more upset about this than your kids. Just move on. Plenty of colleges out there.

I understand your frustration OP. But a vent like this is unnecessary . So you decided not to apply, great for you. Probably their lost. But a vent like this to your “in real life”friends, makes you sound bitter- like it’s “sour grapes” to you, and honestly it makes you look foolish.

I have a current junior and although I think GT Is overrated, it’s on the top list of schools for her.

Entitlement attitude is seeping through OP's post. Don't apply if you want to hide your lower scores.

she’ll prob figure it out sooner or later. but I’m not going to trash the school to her, in real life people, or on an anonymous board.

+1 Up until recently, providing all scores was the norm. This isn't something that applies only to OP's kids. If testing pressure is going to ruin their high school, then good for his kids for deciding to go elsewhere.
