A slimmer waist?

According to the BMI charts a 5'2 female's ideal weight is between 104 lbs and 127 lbs

Have you ever had a small waist? I literally never have. Even at 5'5" and 95 pounds at 18. I was tiny, but my waist was not. The woman in my family are pretty much straight up and down when looking from the front. And we have wide rib cages.

I need to lose weight, but I cannot focus on having a small waist because that isn't how my body is built. I say all this to say - be realistic. If that's not your body shape, then it just isn't. Focus on your health, and having YOUR best body.

I am the same. It's boy shape when you're young and "apple" when you're older. Not only do I not have a waist, it is high. Drop waist jeans were the savior.

I am 5'6 and weighed 120 lbs in January. After losing 10 pounds by sharply reducing sugar and gluten my waist decreased by 3 inches. Controlling bloat is key.

Hormone changes that happen with age also cause more fat to deposit around midsection, plus losing muscle mass from your rear and legs.

Actually I would focus on maintaining/gaining muscle mass on your lower half.

Yes, this. A "slimmer" waist is quite literally relative. I would be working on your glutes and doing general resistance work, not trying to lose weight--which as others say, is unlikely to change your relative proportions. You'll probably just end up somewhat bonier (at least that's what happens to me after a certain point...!)

OP you didn't tell us about your current diet. Walk us through a typical day, and don't forget to include that sneaky, pesky sugar.

I have similar stats but am two inches shorter and about 10 pounds lighter and my waist is abt an inch smaller. I'm a lifelong exerciser and I'm a runner and running has helped me keep my core small because I hate, hate ab work and I rarely ever do them. It is when I've done sprint workouts regularly when my waist and abs were at their best. Toned and small. Maybe other exercises work especially if you don't hate doing them but I think the sprints were the most efficient way of keeping your waist small and abs toned.

I assure you, I do not look like I have an eating disorder. I'm hourglass. Like a less cut version of Kim K's newest figure. The Pete Era.

I am 5'6" 145lbs and my waist is the same as yours. I have no boobs and a zombie face whenever I get close to 135. You need to accept that people are just built differently.

Same here. I remember when I was a cheerleader and they took our measurements for outfits and everyone was surprised at my waist circumference bc I looked pretty thin, but it was larger than for the girl who was chubby. The coach said "some people have a thicker waist"

On reflection, it is horrible that they took our measurements with all of us in the room. WTF were they thinking.

If losing more fat is not giving you the shape you want, try to work on creating an optical illusion of a smaller waist, i.e. work on your shoulders/lats and your glutes.

I’m 5’1 and the lowest I got was 100 (at 45). Even then, my waist was 28 inches. There just isn’t the space needed between bottom rib and hip to create more narrowness.

Yep. I have a high waist (right under my ribcage) and my hips sit high, too, so there isn't room for my waist to nip in!

At 5 foot 2, I think you need to drop 10 pounds. You’ll lose an inch on your waist, and all around by doing so. You aren’t unhealthy but you’re not at the ideal weight for your height.
