It's really cute how much the left in the US holds countries like the Nordics on such a high pedestal. Sweden? Really? It's so obvious how ignorant you are of world history. Sweden actually DID enact much of the social programs and tax/economic policies that the left in the US thinks we should pursue. It led to decades of high unemployment, high inflation, and horrible economic growth. It was until the 90s that Sweden really improved after rejecting far left principles to pursue a moderate approach that actually embraced far more free market capitalist ideas. Liberals in the US would probably be shocked to learn that Sweden has NO inheritance taxes Sweden has NO wealth taxes: https://sweden.se/life/society/taxes-in-sweden That's completely opposite of what Dems like AOC and her faction of the Democrat party are calling for. Dems want the govt to confiscate wealth and make it difficult to pass wealth to your family. Funny how they say they want a Swedish model, then call for exactly opposite of what the Swedes do with respect to taxation. Also, it's really funny, because the dirty secret of another Nordic like Norway is the fact that they fund massive amounts of their social spending programs through oil and fossil fuels. Norway has a sovereign wealth fund worth over $1T USD precisely because it invests in so much oil. How would something like fly with the current Democrat party that has kneecapped the country for producing oil? Democrats always say that they want a Nordic model, yet they know nothing about the history of Sweden and how it got their, Sweden's lack of taxes on wealth, and Norway's massive wealth derived from fossil fuels, which is a big no-no due to the push from Dems to pursue a green economy. |
I should also add, Sweden has actually continued to lower corporate tax rates consistently over the years.....which is again, completely opposite of what politicians like Warren, AOC, Biden, etc. call for. Something make me believe you really wouldn't want to be like Sweden at all, because they're far too capitalist. |
Nah, Peru started ravaging its environment and made a lot of money through mining. Peru is one of the top producers of gold, zinc, copper, etc. It comes at the cost of having a horribly polluted environment. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/climate-and-people/perus-toxic-gold-mines/ |
It’s 20% in Sweden. On paper in the US it’s 21%, but we all know that it’s basically 0%. So you would support corporations paying their fair share? Also LOL at you assuming that everyone is as ignorant as you are about how Scan countries operate. |
ahahhahaa... angry dem mad sweden continually cuts corporate taxes....which blows up their entire narrative. The point is the direction Sweden is headed - the rate of change is continually negative for corporate taxes in Sweden, because they're not dumb and realize it is a competitive advantage. Complete and exact opposite of AOC/Warren/etc. |
So, you’ll happily embrace the politics of the Scandinavian countries? And you’ll vote accordingly?
|
Let me know when you embrace funding all of your social initiatives with $1T USD in oil money
|
Yeah, right, sure, ok, uh-huh. |
I hate to break it to you, but the narrative is that we can have capitalism in a real social safety net that includes cradle to grave benefits. That's the nordic model that most American liberals aspire to. |
Norway has oil money, Sweden doesn't. |
| Both Sweden and Norway also have a much flatter tax system than the US to pay for their generous social benefits. This is another thing the left in the US will never go along with. The poor and middle class don't have to pay their fair share. |
The poor and middle class here have expenses that are socialized in Sweden. A middle class American paying for their own health insurance and saving for college would end up paying less in Sweden where their taxes are higher, but they don't need health insurance or college savings |
That's fine, if the poor and middle class pay their fair share of taxes like they do in Sweden and Norway, I will support universal healthcare and free public college. |
WTH? Why should the poor and middle class be paying taxes AT ALL? |
On a moral level, people have an obligation to help pay for the collective that benefits them. On a practical level, the government needs tax dollars to pay for social benefits, and there isn't enough money from the rich to help pay for everything. On a DCUM-argument level, the left always wants us to be more like Norway and Demark, and the poor/middle class pay far more taxes in those countries than in the US. |
