I sent my folks some treats, including 4” pecan pies (thinking my Dad could keep them frozen and thaw one at a time as he wanted), pralines, and Caramillicans (seems to be similar to turtle candies) from Millican Pecan. My mon was particularly excited about the Caramillicans. They said everything was good, but honestly, I’m pretty sure they would have said that regardless. https://millicanpecan.com/collections/pecan-pies |
| Am I really mixed up… how was your mother baking for your FIL? |
+1 for Zingerman’s |
My mother got remarried (to my FIL) when I was 12 yo. They have been married for ~40 years, during which time she baked often. A few years ago my mother started showing signs of dementia, which steadily advanced to the point where she had to be admitted to a full time memory care facility. My mother doesn't even know who I am anymore when I visit, and has trouble putting together basic sentences. So there's no chance of asking her for recipes etc. My FIL continues to live at their private home as he is still of sound mind and capable of self care. |
Forgot to say it was OP replying - but I guess that's obvious. Wanted to thank everyone for the great suggestions. |
Wow your mom married your FIL? That’s wacky! |
Sorry Step Father, I'm sorry for the confusion. With Fathers Day coming I've got both in my head. |
Ha, and I was thinking that it was wonderful!!! All that love in one family!!! Your parents did something right, OP! |
I do like these and we get some every year from a relative but we have discovered that the buttercream ones need to be stored in the fridge if you aren't eating them right away or else they will mold

| Little Austria for strudel. |
| Nothing is going to be better than a high-quality local bakery. Does your Dad live in the middle of nowhere flyover country with nothing nearby? |
Oh gosh… I was so confused. Trying to figure out how you had a FIL when you were 12! 😂 |
