They are a few miles apart. so yeah they are "down the street" from each other. What a bizarre thing to argue about...

Both schools are similarly situated in terms of demographics. Wakefield so far just has less kids. The situation is going to get worse at Wakefield next year bc of the easy availability of transfers to W-L and no need to go into the IB program to transfer. This will divert students who are coming into 9th and I think there will be some upperclassmen transfers as well.

Are you suggesting all the “nice” kids will transfer?

It's incredibly racist is what it is.

I went to a nice, mostly white kids high school. Kids still got in physical fights. It happens. Teach your kid to keep their hands to them self and they'll be fine.

Like 40 person fights?

He should request a "healing circle"

all joking aside, I hope he is ok and I don't think he deserves to have to break up fights between kids as part of his job.

wow, why so presumptuous? There are many non white kids who will take advantage of this. Maybe they are the "nice" kids if by nice you mean the ones who follow rules and put a lot of effort into academics. Removing the restriction that transfers must go into the full IB program is similar to removing the test for admission to TJ. It knocks down a barrier for students who didn't want to or felt they could complete that program.

NP, but when I was in high school (1994?) we had a 40-person fight at the end of the school day and 13 people were arrested. This was in PWC.

PP Said the situation at WHS will be worse when more kids transfer. The only thing that can be deducted from that is that they believe the kids most likely to be involved in fights would not be transferring out. Why would that be?

I’m not so sure that there will be a huge transfer problem to W/L. That school will be massive and many parents might not want that.

I don’t see what the TJ test removal has to do with anything. The school is just as hard once you get there as it was before, just barriers to opting in to that intensity have been removed, esp in FCPS where they have AAP. It isn’t like oh, you came in by lottery, here is your no-AP non-Intensified easy track.

DP. It has nothing to do with anything.
IB or not IB, there are simply more transfer seats available to WL.

Families in the Madison Manor neighborhood, zoned to Yorktown HS, are now guaranteed administrative transfers to W-L. There are plenty of seats to fill, both for IB and non IB/AP.

Because kids who are involved in violent incidents are less likely to have families that would go through the process of moving them? Just spitballing.

It's one of the Manors, and applies to the Ashlawn ES zoned families. Not sure if the no restrictions transfer to W-L privilege extends to Dominion Hills.

Ok it’s boulevard manor then. Madison Manor is on the north side of Wilson and zoned for cardinal- WL.
