| My DC is comfortable on campus at VT but the surrounding area is redneck central. As in, they yell at people out of trucks if they don’t like the looks of you. |
Williamsburg is not any different. Most college towns, in fact, have an element like that.
|
This. You choose your school based on major and interest, politics have little to do with it,. especially at state schools. VT is huge, it doesn't really matter. |
| To PP, are you more interested in finding a more conservative or liberal environment, or are you interested in finding a place where different views are respected? |
Are you part of the Russian propaganda development team, trying to figure out which school to put in a propaganda campaign? If so, you probably want to try to destroy W&M, because it’s much more central to democracy. |

Was there in the early 90's and never expeiences this nor heard of anyone else experiencing it either. |
| People didn’t used to fight on planes, either. |
Wouldn't most people not be in a truck anyway? |
I haven't either and I've taught both there and at UVA. Some idiots say stuff like that - or "it's Trump country" - when it isn't - or "there are confederate flags" when there aren't. . These are mostly bored college students or young men who got kicked off College Confidential so are here to make trouble |
It's an ignorant comment designed to work you up |
Do you seriously think the word "conservative" equates to white supremacy and homophobia? And that anyone who considers themselves conservative is a white supremacist and homophobic? That's as bad as thinking that anyone who considers themselves liberal is a Marxist who wants to abolish all private property and destroy the Constitution. |
Are you saying that there are NOT confederate flags in the area around UVA and Tech? Yes, there are confederate flags in that area. You don’t have to go far from DC into Virginia to start seeing them. I remember being surprised by this when I first moved to DC in the late 90s. |
Williamsburg went 70% to Biden in 2020. Same percentage as Fairfax County. |
| Politically, Williamsburg is blue! I’m a W&M graduate and met people of various political views there, seemed like a mix. |
