| Or is there no discernible difference between the two? |
| If I had to guess based on demographics and school type, William & Mary. |
| Generally speaking, W&M. But a liberal kid at VT will have no problem finding their people. |
Really weird question. Is you're child going to school to learn or become a political idealogue? Both are great schools with something for everyone on either side of the political spectrum and there is nothing wrong with that, it's called real life. |
How about between VT and UVA? |
| What does your student want to study? That is how you answer the which school question. |
| The cultural/political environment absolutely does matter. A student needs to feel comfortable in their learning environment. That said, I believe all schools mentioned have a critical mass of both conservative and liberal students so that you DC should feel comdortable either way. |
|
William and Mary definitely has the more liberal student body. I think WM is likely the most liberal campus in the entire state.
But Virginia Tech applies the latest technologies to each major. Your kid will walk out prepared for the 21st Century no matter their major. My kid went with VT. |
| W&M was once basically solidly center-left. But it seems to have moved left recently, mimicking other schools. |
|
There is a rating on this website based on incoming freshman surveys. It has W&M at 246 out of 506 schools on a scale from most liberal to most conservative, and VT is at 280. So both close to middle of the pack, but the average school is going to skew left versus the population as a whole.

+100 Such a dumb question. |
Mine too. |
| There are very different schools. Hard to imagine a kid choosing between them. |
| Stupid question. Your child goes to college to learn to read, think and write critically. They are supposed to be exposed to all different ideas in college and learn to think fir themselves. These provincial moms who post on here about thrir concerns about their snowflakes being exposed to conservative thought is just pathetic. Yes I am a professor |
You sound like the snowflake here. |
