Just come out and say the quiet part you're thinking...

Tell her to check if CNU has a sub on reddit. She can get an idea of the school from previous posts and answers she receives to her posts.

Newport News is the 5th largest city in Virginia. CNU is in the heart of the city. Also has a large boating industry.

Lol. And a gorgeous campus.

I don't know . . . I'd just be disappointed if my kid went to CNU. Not gonna lie. With so many other options available for in state Virginia . . . no thanks.

CNU has a great athletic department and program. I think the school spirit is outstanding for a Division 3 program. The campus is not spread out and I think the student population is very close. Greek life is large at CNU. The area around the university has been rehabilitated with shopping and restaurants.

Why? What makes comparable options in VA better? Location, academics personal bias?

I'd prefer in a heartbeat that my kid attend any of the following VA schools over CNU:

UVA
William & Mary
Tech
JMU
VCU
UMW
GMU

I place CNU in the category of:

ODU
Longwood
Radford

I know it's gotten harder to get into in recent years, but reputations lag behind reality. I just consider it to be low second tier at the very best.

OP, are you limiting her to colleges in Virginia? Be honest with yourself. If you are, her other Va choices of similar admission competitiveness, aren't likely to be much different re: school spirit.

The question was comparable Universities so you would choose ODU, Longwood and Radford over CNU...why?

I never said I'd choose any of those schools over CNU. I said I consider all of those schools to be in the same category. Honestly, I wouldn't want my kid to attend any of them. I understand, of course, that for some kids those are the only in state options . . .

Fair enough, think your rating system is a bit odd but at least you answered honestly. No dog in this fight, I just find the individual bias that people on this board harbor can be a bit limiting and closed minded. Hope your kid never has to make the decision between CNU and the other three, that will make for some tense moments.

Add 'Elon' to the second category. It is where the dumb football players went when I was in high school.
