| Not likely. If you still have milk then get the baby back in the breast and call a lactation nurse to help with the latching. |
I found the S1 better than the pump I rented from the hospital (Ameda). I would also try nursing your baby. Women get much better letdown with a baby than a pump. Early on my baby wasn’t good at transferring milk. But I found I got much more milk pumping one side while she was latched to the other than I did with double pumping without baby. Everyone is different but I would not just exclusively pump to get supply going but also nurse with baby since oxytocin release will be better with baby. (Many people don’t respond to a pump as well as to one‘s baby that can be one reason it is hard to pump what a baby needs after going back to work.) |

OP here. I’m feeling a little disappointed. I started pumping last night and all day today ( 10, 12, 4am, 7am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm) and only got about 1oz with most pumps and almost 2oz twice. 8 pumps and about 10 ounces. My baby eats 3-4oz 7-8 times a day. No way will I will be able to keep up with it.
I did try breastfeeding again after pumping and each time it did not go well. The reason is quit was because of latch issues that weren’t able to be corrected and I just didn’t like it. I had to supplement after most feeds and just felt like switching to formula and bottle feeding was easier. |
It’s only been a day. Give it more time. Start stocking up on formula. You can bottle feed what you get from pumping if you’re exclusively pumping and then supplement. |
+1. I actually think that’s pretty encouraging for your first day back. When I had supply issues, right before I gave up and went fully to formula, I would pump 2-3 times during the work day and only get 1.5 ounces total. And I’m pretty sure I was done producing well before two weeks after I stopped. Keep it up mama! |
I agree that is a really good output for first day! I never responded well to the pump and that is close to my best day of pumping! Fortunately between 3-4 months her latch/milk transfer improved with bodywork (and perhaps more so just getting bigger) and I was eventually able to exclusively breastfeed with somedays needing to supplement 1 bottle. If this is just your first day it is very likely that you will keep getting more! |
| Your amounts should increase over time. Your body needs time to adjust. Make sure to drink plenty of water. |
Agreed! That isn't enough but it is a sign you can absolutely start again -- your body will need a few days to ramp back up. I'd personally give it at least 1 week, probably 2 to see what you can get. But I think you will get there by then. Good luck! |
