Why did you choose private over your WTOP elementary…..

Because the independent school we picked was better in every respect. On some points the differential was a chasm whereas the gap was much smaller in other areas. We reassessed at MS and again at high school (for SWW, not Wilson).

Also because we value education above a gigantic addition with an open floor plan and an Audi Q7

You sound like you’re fun at parties.

Zoned for Lafayette. Chose private for K b/c (in order or importance):

- COVID (horrified by 2021 school year and don't trust DCPS bureaucracy or that the WTU gives a crap about kids)
- Smaller class sizes
- Religious instruction

More science, art, and joy. Fewer assessments, disruptions, and mediocrity.

Dislike public.

Because I was foolish to believe that I was paying for more than polish.

Long list:

-Far superior facilities
-Better network for the kids
-Better network for me
-Better quality lunches
-Better sports and coaching
-Smaller classes
-Students and parents are more conservative
-An even wealthier peer group for both the kids and me to be around.
-Less time spent on standardized testing

My neighbors who did 2 additions within 5 years both and drive luxury cars send their children to private. Sorry you think only public school parents do that.

I’ve done both public and private and nicer cars at private for sure. You are just simply stupid.

A large reason I worked hard over the years to get wealthy is to avoid being around the middle class( which I used to be). Now that I am wealthy, I want the best of everything...crude but the truth.

More conservative! Ha! Come to my Catholic private in DC-full of very liberal parents as well as the staff. Abysmal sports and not a robust amount of sports to have access to. Give me a break with the network stuff, you should be embarrassed by that. Lunch can be taken care of by parents. No one chooses a school for the menu. The one thing you are right on is the facilities and that’s all my $30000 plus a year is going to which is not okay with me. You are a fool.

Private school is not always the best academically. We are leaving our well regarded private because it’s touted as better but is in fact not. It’s just what people assume.

This! My kids get PE daily. Specials multiple times per week. The school has a wonderful warm atmosphere.

I think this is based on how you define "better academically". For me, it is getting a solid foundation in reading, writing and math but also heavy emphasis on the arts, foreign language, social studies, physical education etc. A big difference is our kids' excitement for learning at private.
