Valedictorian in High School

So you mean 102 students got all As? How is that even possible?

I don’t know where that 102 number came from, I believe there are around 50-60 valedictorians at Qo, which is still absurd.

Crazy! When I was a kid less than 5% of the class even had an A average.

So are there so many valedictorians because these kids are really smart or is it due to grade inflation. And if so, is grade inflation this bad in all mcps schools.

Grade inflation! When quarterly grades always round up (meaning q1 = A and q2 = B gives a semester A), it isn’t that hard to get all semester A’s!

This! Plus, remember that many students with 4.0s aren’t taking all the most rigorous classes. There are likely plenty of students with WGPAs much higher than some of the 4.0 kids, but they had one B at some point and aren’t on that 4.0 list for recognition. It’s really not such a great achievement anymore.

Do other MCPS High Schools do the multi valedictorian other than QO?

No, they don't but a lot of these posts seem to come from an alternate reality.

KIds are just so much smarter today and also MCPS is doing such an amazing job that it's now common.

Anonymous wrote:My child's school gives anyone with a 4.0 unweighted GPA the Valedictorian title. So this year there are 102 Valedictorians at his school which I think is insane. This is like half the graduating class. I thought Valedictorian is suppose to be the top student in the school and Salutatorian is the second top student. This school does not rank so there is no top student and they just let everyone be valedictorian. Do other MCPS High schools do this or is this only my child's school?

Yup, it's been like that for at least a decade. My kid's langley class had 62 valedictorians. makes no sense

When I was in MCPS back in the late 80s we had 3 out of a class of 600, but kids today are so much smarter than in the old days. I'm really not surprised there are so many now. Similarly, look at how high SAT scores are too! These kids are just tearing it up!

So is QO the only HS that uses this title for graduates with a 4.0?

QO is notoriously competitive.

I guess they can all claim valedictorian status on their resumes!
