He had outstanding extracurriculars. Raised a widow's son from the dead, turned bread into wine, and cured the paralytic. Applied TO. |
| This is so trailer trash! |
Please elaborate. |
How does that imply anything? |
+1 Really folks! Is this where we are on society? Yikes! |
Then it was a miracle that He got in. |
What is tacky? I agree that a Go Fund Me would be, but privately helping your god son will college tuition? You're going to have to explain what is ''tacky'' about that. |
If he’s going to an out of state state party school over a cheaper in state option, maybe. But if you are saying family and friends don’t help out a young person, I don’t envy you. |
PP here. I am agreeing with you. |
I hear he had extended time. Spent way too long on his theology exam, and they still accepted it. It's like his father's someone important or something. |

OP here. Apologies I left out more relevant details. My husband and I have had extensive conversations with the parents and my God son over the past few years about college choices, costs and savings. They have not followed to advice.
He has average grades and not certain of his path of study so we recommended community college first so he can explore and figure it out for a low cost. He wants to go to school out of state. So we said apply to probated out of state and qualify for financial aid. They applied to out of state public schools. We advised against Go Fund Me and I was checking here to see alternatives. It is good to know we can pay directly to the school. Their decisions not make financial sense but we love our God son and want to contribute to his education as long as he stays in good financial standing according to his school and department’s standards. Thank you for the information that we can request to be added as a payer to his school account. Just to be sure, that does not obligate us to any fees due correct? It just allows us to make payments if we choose? |
+1. TACKY AND TRASHY |
DP here. My child’s university uses a payment service called NelNet that, in communication with the parents, should allow you to make a separate log in for you to access. There will be no added fee unless you pay with a credit card or debit card rather than debit card. $1-2k should not trigger any gift tax limits. |

Thank you for the Nellnet information. I will ask about similar at his chosen school.
For the other posters with comments about trailer trash, tacky and trashy I am saddened by these comments. Although their choices are not my choices I do not denigrate them, instead I try to educate and share knowledge. I hope we all can do the same for one another in which ever areas of life where we have uncertainties. |
