Is it trolling if it’s inequitable for my own child’s friends? |
| If you google prom and Ramadan, this is actually a big issue that has occurred at other schools and been deliberately avoided at others. |
Yes. Prom is in the evening. There is no reason they cannot go. |
|
1. Practicing Muslims can attend Ramadan. But they can only eat and drink after sundown, even water, so they might be very tired, dehydrated and have bad breath before sundown. 2. Ramadan dates, as explained in the recent Eid thread, are NOT decided years in advance. We know the approximate date, but the actual date might be off by 24-48 hours, because the start of Ramadan depends on physical sighting of the crescent moon, which means it starts at slightly different times in different regions of the world. 3. Finally, as already said, it's an entire month, that moves every year. No one can plan any large group event around it. |
Ramadan is an entire month. There's only so much that you can do. Is prom on Eid? No? Then the kids should be fine if they want to go. If they are so strict that they cannot go to prom during Ramadan, I seriously wonder if they would've been allowed otherwise. |

4. Ramadan breaking of fast every night is traditionally celebrated with FAMILY.
So even though there is interdict to go partying, it might not be considered appropriate. |
| no interdict |
That we be a personal choice to make then to not attend. |
They can break fast and then go. If their family finds it inappropriate then that is the parents’ choice. The kid can be mad at the parent not the school. |
It doesn’t. OP is called ignorant and yes Ramadan is an entire month and yes it moves. |
No one ever said it doesn’t move. And if you knew anything about Ramadan, you would know that it is observed slightly differently among different cultures and even within families that belong to the same culture. Attending a social party, especially one that involves dancing with the opposite gender, may not allowed during Ramadan. |
With that perspective then there should be no prom since many Evangelicals can not dance with the opposite sex or go to unsupervised event with the opposite sex. |
Are you really so ignorant that you don’t see the difference between a lifelong lifestyle choice and a single event during a religious holiday? |
It’s all religious based. If you want to concern troll then be equitable for all religions. |
| This is hilarious. If prom is after the fast is broken there is nothing wrong with having prom during Ramadan. Having big happy social gatherings is one of the biggest traditions that developed around Ramadan. |
