| My student told me today that several of their friends can’t go to prom because it’s during Ramadan. What on earth was our high school thinking, scheduling prom during Ramadan, when it has such a large Muslim population? |
| Prom dates are usually set years in advance. You know that Ramadan moves dates, right? |
| I don’t think we can take a full month off of activities Ramadan |
| 🙄 |
What an ignorant thing to say. Yes Ramadan moves, just like Easter, but dates for both are easy to look up for years to come. |
| Isn’t Ramadan a whole month? I don’t think we can postpone around a whole month. |
Uhhh no. The dates for Ramadan are not fixed years in advance. Are you the same person who tantrumed last week about the date for EID just being fixed and how to be schooled on when that date gets set each year? |
| Are those kids allowed to go to a party that involves members of the opposite sex even if it's not during Ramadan? |
+1 we’re not gonna stop the world for you for 30 days. You do what you need to do. |
| What about Ramadan conflicts with going to prom? |
| Fwiw in many (most?) predominantly Muslim societies, there's tons of socializing during Ramadan during evening hours. I don't see any reason why an observant Muslim couldn't participate in and enjoy prom during Ramadan. |
+1. In addition I’m not clear why a student’s observing Ramadan would preclude them from attending Prom? If the prom were scheduled for Eid al Fidtr I could see that being more problematic. |
OP is just concern trolling. |
OP here. Yes, they are. They are at parties with my child most weekends, but their families are strict observers of Ramadan. And no, I did not post about Eid, but I had no trouble googling the dates for Ramadan in 2023 and 2024. |

Oh well. Sometimes you miss things. Your choice.
