The meal delivery thing is a great idea! |
I had paid summers off with one nanny job when the parents returned to South Africa to see their families for the whole summer. |
Went to visit my best friend in London. Domestically did either Hawaii or CA. The international first class was a real treat. Just remember, everyone can “sweeten the pot” for an exceptional nanny. |

Use of vacation homes |
My nanny family used to use their air miles to fly my husband out for a long weekend whenever I was traveling with them and give me that time off. It was honestly the only way we could ever afford vacations and it meant to much to me. The dad boss traveled M-F for work so those miles were less than a drop in his bucket and they were already paying for my accommodations which obviously my husband shared so it really didn't cost them anything extra, but meant the world to me. |
Traveling with the family is definitely not a perk or special privilege. It’s twice the work and no vacation at all for the nanny. I personally hate it.
|
+1. My previous job involved 24 hour days when traveling and no break at all. I will never do that again. It makes no difference where we traveled, it was always so hard for me. |
I don’t think that’s even legal, OP. They were working you around the clock. |
Well that’s not actually true that everyone can sweeten the pot. But if you’re rich you can sweeten the pot! |
No, you can find something. My first nanny employers were grad students (so decidedly not rich) and they gave me Wednesday afternoons off (paid, of course). It was a nice little breather in the middle of the week. |
+1. I made an extra serving of dinner for my nanny to take home. |
+2. We let our nanny bring her second grade daughter with her to work on school holidays. Our child adored nanny’s daughter and ten years later, nanny’s daughter still calls my DD “Baby Doll”. We’ve remained close! |
