DH and I want to go away overnight. How much to pay my godson to spend the night with the kids?

The godson is 21 not her kids. And OP has three kids.

Why are you clarifying that? I understand that. I think there’s a pretty decent risk that a 21-year-old and a 15-year-old are gonna throw a party.

I misunderstood; I thought you were saying OP's kids were okay to stay by themselves and only needed a neighbor to keep an ear out. I agree it is a good ideas to let the neighbors know you are out.

If they’re planning a party Better add beer money to that too

$200 or $250, plus make sure you have a full tank of gas, make sure one of the kids has your Uber eats/Door Dash loaded and can charge a good dinner.

And invite who? 21 year olds don’t want to party with 15 year olds. And the 11 year old would immediately call mom. They’re not going to throw a party.

I think $200 plus any food or activity expenses.

Biggest party of my high school years was thrown by a fourteen year old freshman whose parents were out of town and being babysat by a college student. La Casa Fiesta, in case about NCS/STA folks from the late eighties are reading this....

Mine would be so offended that they need a babysitter!!! For ONE night. If something bad happens they can call a neighbor or in an emergency 911.

What? No. OP is right.

You are right to have someone with him, but how much do you trust him? Around 12, I stayed overnight at college with my cousin for one night. We went to a big party and I had alcohol. My parents never knew. This was my super responsible cousin and she was in grad school and had an apartment.

We’re you left to your own devices at the party or did your cousin give you alcohol? Did you get drunk?

This really shows that the brain is not fully developed until a certain age and even very responsible-seeming young people can make very dumb or even reckless choices.

I wasn’t ever left alone. It was my cousin who offered me the drinks and no, I didn’t get drunk. I was mostly there like a deer in headlights thinking - wow! I’m at a college party!

Anonymous wrote:$250 he’s family, in college, and can probably use the extra money, plus he’s giving up his weekend for you. Plus meals and gas money to use with the kids

Agree

Yes this is nice if affordable to you. I am wondering if you have a sense of whether this kid enjoys his cousins, happy to do free laundry at your house, and get away from roommates...or if this is a huge ask.

This is what I would pay, but it depends on the duration. Is he staying for 12 hours to simply cover the sleeping or 24-36 hours to always be available while you are gone? 150-200

The 15 year old IS NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE.

What an idiot.

Plus one. People are so quick to be jerks on anonymous websites. Even if they are the ones out of line.
