| Some solid Jesuit schools there. Scranton can be pretty grey and depressing in the winter (except for Cooper's!), although skiing is close by. Loyola felt really dead to me when I visited on a Friday and I wrote it off at the time despite the nice campus. St. Joe's has the most interesting location, on the city border of Philly with easy access into Center City. |
OP here. St. Joe's and Loyola have almost identical campuses. Both are on the edge of the city line. Both have a bridge connecting the residence halls to the main campus. Both have a mixture of old and new buildings. As for Scranton, any restaurant recommendations? I've never been there. Thanks for the info! |
| My brother and 2 cousins went to Scranton. They loved it. Underrated Jesuit school. City doesn’t have much to offer though. |
| Childhood friend got her master's in Nutrition at Scranton. RD -- registered dietician -- and became chief nutritionist at a large hospital. The school served her well. |
There are a number of solid downtown Scranton Restaurants. I generally prefer Tequila (Mexican), Bar Pazzo (Italian) and AV (also somewhat Italian but a lot of everything). For burgers and fries, try Coney Island Lunch. All of these are basically within walking distance of the University. |
PP here again, it is true that Scranton isn't chock full of culture, but it's definitely on the rise. More shops/restaurants are opening downtown, plenty of people moving from Philly and NY to live there cheaply and are pushing for more amenities in the city itself. |
Basically none of the Office was filmed in Scranton. Primarily what you saw was Burbank. |
This was my son’s take, not mine! |
Uh, as a person who is pretty knowledgeable about LU, it has lacrosse but it's not really a lacrosse school. It's a fine school, however. |
| Going to scranton PA is like going back to when the world was in black and white. Its a disgusting place with ugly, backward people. |
| And so many illegal immigrants! |
Look around you. There are tons of illegal immigrants in this area too. |
| Scrantonian here. Lots of family alumn and current faculty. Fantastic education. They treat their students well. Low cost of living. Scranton doesn’t have a super night scene/party school. I would recommend it |

Pp here. For solid awesome buffalo wings and bar food, Kelly’s in south side. Pizza, Pappas downtown Scranton…..really their pizza is pretty good almost anywhere. Pappas has delicious turkey grinders. There is an upscale restaurant downtown too, not sure of the name.
Coopers is a dive. Really gross. I was a waitress there for years and you don’t want to know what is going on in the kitchen. Radisson hotel is crummy. There is a Hilton there that is newer and you can bring your dogs. Coffee….Zummos! My best friend sends me their coffee for every holiday/birthday. |
Longwood is a lacrosse school? Who knew!? 😂 |
