Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
Agreed - the press release says ALL UNEXPIRED meds with the NDC numbers indicated. PP, I hope you are wrong about store brands being made in the same facilities. If that is true, then I guess that means there is no infant/children's tylenol or motrin to be had. Does anyone know if this is true about the store brands? |
| We gave our DD an entire bottle (1 oz) from birth to 12 months of one of the recalled bottles and all of the other bottles we have in the house are on the recall list. What exactly are the side effects of the "problem" ingredients? Why aren't they giving a refund? I think we should have a class action law suit. They should at least be tellling parents what the specific problems are. |
| Me too - I have four bottles in front of me (the bottle of Zyrtec has maybe one does left) and they're all on the recall list. Now what? Has anyone figured out if they'll replace or refund the cost? |
| 14:01 here, the site does say that the recall isn't for any "adverse medical events" but I don't believe them. |
| I just called the phone number listed, and they included the possibility of small particles in the products. All they say is to stop using the products and definitely do not give any instructions for returning the products or getting refunds. That's ridiculous. Anyone have Zyrtec with a different number? I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get to CVS to buy another bottle before bedtime tonight. Allergy season isn't over yet! |
| 14:06 -- Any idea on what "small particles" mean? Particles of what, lead? metal bits? dirt? |
| I remember that they recalled some lots in March...I went to the Tylenol site and didn't find the lot of my bottle at home so kept giving it. Now the same bottle is completely recalled. Unfortunately, the bottle is almost finished. |
| 14:06 here - I wasn't listening very closely b/c it was basically the same as the press release on the website, but the recording listed possible problems with the recalled products (like the press release - too little active ingredient, too much active ingredient) but my ears perked up when they said small particles. This is so annoying. The benadryl has been used once - we should get refunds. |
| i have 2 brand new infant tylenols that are recalled. we should most definitely get refunds. |
| called cvs near me, and they said all zyrtec and benadryl is off their shelves - all recalled. they said there's still cvs brand and claritin available. fyi |

This is beyond infuriating!!! I actually really hesitate to give tylenol or motrin to my little one (and am the same way for myself) but at the same time, when he is really suffering from teething, I do give tylenol. Interestingly, my son used to keep tylenol down easily but for the last two months has been vomiting them back up immediately as soon as I dose him and even after a second dose (which my ped says is okay, normally). Meantime, three of DS's little baby buddies have recently been sick (with way high fevers) so we're worried he might have caught the virus. So now what do I do if he does get a high fever? Is feverall (that suppository) okay?
I am completely over the tylenol brand -- this is the SECOND time we've been impacted by a recall in 9 months of my little child's life. In fact, I have purchased tylenol exactly three times and they've all been recalled! So I am now 3 for 3 with wasting my money on tylenol. When DS started vomiting the tylenol we had on hand, we went out and bought the dye free version. Both recalled! The last time there was a recall I didn't bother getting a refund, but I certainly will push for a refund this time around. Are there alternatives to the mcneil brand? Have others used feverall successfully? I'm sure the vomiting was a coincidence, but I'm glad it happened. And the FDA -- Jesus. What are they doing? I'm a full vaccinator, but this is why people get so freaked out about vaccinations. The same regulators who clearly have their thumbs and heads firmly up their asses are regulating vaccinations. I'm just sick of all of this, but unfortunately, I've never found any of the holistic type remedies as effective as others claim. So I feel screwed and without good options all around. |
Why hate the FDA? This shows that they are actually doing their jobs. I guess you can hate pharmaceuticals, but then stop using them to be consistent with your feelings. |
| My children's zyrtek came from the pharmacy located at my pediatrician's office - Capital Medical Group. It has a different lot number than the one recalled. I just bought it last week. Good luck. |

I've got some store brands of these things too. Only one has an NDC number. The rest have nothing but lot numbers. I don't know if that means that bottle was manufactured in the same place as name brands or not.
But none of mine are subject to the recall, and I had like 8 bottles of different things (all pretty old, so maybe it's the more recently manufactured stuff). |
Wash Po: According to McNeil and the FDA, some of the products recalled may have a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified on the bottle. Others may contain particles, while still others may contain inactive ingredients that do not meet internal testing requirements. The FDA called the potential for serious medical problems "remote," but it advised consumers to stop using the medicine as a precaution. It said a health care professional should be consulted if a child has recently taken any of the recalled products and is exhibiting unexpected symptoms. The FDA also says parents in the interim should consider substitute child medications, such as generic versions. It does not recommend that children be given adult-strength Tylenol or Motrin because they are not intended for younger age groups. |
