My kid went to school without a mask and came home with a cold

Yesterday, I woke up with a stuffy nose. There was pollen on my windshield. It definitely could be allergies in your preschooler as opposed to a cold. (We mask everywhere because of immune conditions, it is definitely allergies for me). Sunday day I was fine, Monday and today allergies.

Which is why people test the hypotheses to determine which of the correlated variables are both predictive and extremely likely to be causal. Remember science? Many people apparently didn’t get that far.

What does this have to do with the OP’s kid’s cold?

Yes, this is one downside of not wearing masks and the biggest reason we've asked our kids to stay masked and stay vigilant about hand washing/sanitizer until spring break - we don't want anyone to get anything (covid, a cold, a stomach virus, anything) because we've postponed our trip several times.

As others have said, it is not good, particularly for children, to not be exposed to these illnesses in childhood. This is why such a larger number of children were hospitalized for RSV this past winter. Masking for children has NOT been a net good. They were least vulnerable to COVID and the consequences for the interventions that effect them are consequences that could have long reaching impacts on their lives (a year of school gone, a year delayed of socialization, a year of extremely bubbled immune systems, a year hungry in an uncertain home environment)

So you expect never to be sick again? That isn't realistic and not a very fun way to live!

My DD has had 3 non-Covid colds in the past 2 years and always masks.

Did you really expect your kid to never get sick again?

Covid has truly messed with everyone's expectations.

We haven't had colds in two years. It's been wonderful. I've been perplexed that people actually want to unmask before spring.

Yeah, I was worried about our center dropping masks until I remembered masks didn’t prevent us from getting rsv, Covid, and numerous colds all winter long. Every bug is disruptive so I’m not happy but I’m less worried.

Meh. Mine went to school with a mask all year and got sick enough to miss school 3 times.

Not covid each and every time

My kids were masked all year up to this week and yet we still got a stomach bug and a couple of colds.

I have been more sick the last two years with non covid stuff than the 10 years before that. People are going to have a big immunity debt to make up, so expect to get sick a lot if you "haven't been sick in two years". Contrary to the usual covid psychosis hive mind, its actually not healthy for your immune system to just avoid germs for two years.

+1. Colds are annoying and I certainly haven’t missed the lack of illness over the past two years, but it isn’t healthy for your immune system to go thoroughly unchallenged, especially in younger children.

+1
Kids do need to get normal little sicknesses again

Allergies?

Congrat's? Not sure what you want others to say. It was only a matter of time.
