Honestly, I would have held out for better than this. Best urban location in DC. |
| Ugh, soul sucking. I would slit my wrists if I had to spend $2m and got that generic hotel vibe. Cannot stand that curvy glass wall between foyer and main sitting area. |
you should be more careful how you express your distaste for something. |
That’s really easy to fix. If bland ranches in upper Chevy Chase are going for more than 1.5M, this seems like a steal at $2.0M. |
| I really like it too. If it goes under $2m I will be sad bc we were hoping to find something in Woodley and ended up buying up in Wakefield, thinking we couldn't get anything big enough/updated. Although I agree that the bathroom situation is a pretty serious flaw - for a family with kids, either you all share the one bath on the 2nd floor, or you put the kids upstairs, which means any overnight guests are sharing the parents' bathroom. And it looks like there's only a half in the basement, and no bedroom, so that can't be your guest space. Probably not a dealbreaker for us bc we don't have overnight guests that often, but it's an issue. At least there's space to add one (either in the walk-in closet space or the small 3rd bedroom), although it will be a pain to run the plumbing, so not a small project. |
Hasn’t Wakefield become even more expensive than Woodley lately? A bunch of SFHs in Woodley sold for less than 2 million in the last year or so. |
This house aside… I lived on cathedral for years. There are families in this area, many, I’d say that they are more concentrated in the sfh closer to the cathedral than Connecticut, there are some kids in the apartment buildings on ct. are you public or private? Eaton and the bilingual ES are both close, not sure which this house is zoned for. |
| It’s already pending |
OP here. Unfortunately this is already pending before the open house. Our kids currently are in private. I also really think the light fixtures in the kitchen/main level are very interesting. I am interested in something a similar style once we find a place. Does anyone have suggestions for where to find modern light fixtures similar to these in the area? |
If it doesn’t have a 2 handle, they got bad advice from their realtor. I would have cancelled open at $2.1, no contingencies. $2 — prob would still have had open |
| No master bath is a deal-breaker. |
What’s a 2 handle? |
I think there must have been an autocorrect issue. “2 in front of it” maybe? |
| I lived in Woodley for years. The house is next to the very busy alley, then next to that is a large bed and breakfast with a run down converted garage with a huge dumpster in the front, and across the street from a large apartment building. It is a crap location for that street - arguably the worst. It will be loud. |
| Re: schools, DCPS is lousy. Go for a house zoned for Eaton if you must, but Oyster - despite what the neighbors tell you - is just awful. So so awful. My friend who is a teacher there sends her own child to an independent school for good reason. The neighborhood parents want it to be good because they can’t afford private because they paid so much for their homes but it really isn’t. It’s a school for native Spanish speakers and the entire kindergarten is full immersion Spanish. Every family I know who I’ve spoken to is unhappy with the school and either sucks it up, does the lottery, private, or moved to MoCo. Maybe kids of native Spanish speakers are happy but Unless the kids are bilingual you likely will not like Oyster. |
