Any chance of getting in after being waitlisted?

Getting two boys into STA is next to impossible unless they can split the atom. I'm sorry OP. This process sucks.

If I were in your shoes, I'd push hard for Sidwell - write a 1st choice letter indicating you will accept if offered off of the wait list up to the 1st day of school

For your 7th grader, I'd suggest re-applying for 9th grade. If your DC was WL then they were close and they may have a shot for 9th if they have outstanding EC's , test extremely well, can give a great interview for HS Admissions and/or are maybe an athlete with D 1 full ride potential

yes, different poster. My son was admitted to STA for 9th after getting waitlisted for 7th. I really think this happens a lot. We considered it a "3 year admissions plan".
7th grade admissions at STA are ridiculously hard.

Can you let me know why two boys applying for STA will get zero chance? Does it hurt to have two children applying for the same school at the same time even for different grades? STA likely had 10 spots for 7th and 10 (none-boarding) for 9th. So it's really unlikely that they'll give 2/20 to one family. first of all, it's one less family for them to get money from. It would require your boys to be within the top 10 applicants for two different classes. Are both such rockstars that they can stand out among hundreds and be exactly the kid they're looking for in that grade? These schools fill classes by needs. Maybe 7th needs a basketball player and 9th needs a mathematician. It's hard for two kids from one family to match up to the needs.
Ultimately, I'm sorry. Its a ridiculous process.

My kid was rejected from Sidwell, not waitlisted

I think you need to let the school know “they both want this school as first choice but have public and one other private as a backup. We are willing to split the kids up if one gets in and the other doesn’t, though we hope they both get in.” It can’t hurt to let them know that you would take what you can get. I would not assume schools like to admit siblings the same year, they are overly full with applicants as good as your kids. (My kids too!)

What grade? There are grades where they flat reject and there are grades I’m not so sure (K)

23 new boys entered my son’s class in 9th. Very few were boarders so take these statistics with a grain of salt.

My son got in to STA off the waitlist... 9th. Talk to the admissions directors, ask for feedback. There are many factors that determine waitlist movement. Good luck!
