Wegmans

I don't shop Wegmans any longer. They never have sales and their prices are always much higher than Harris Teeter.

I shop the HT sale each week and have no complaints. I even have their $99/year pass for grocery curbside pickup. Best thing that I adopted and kept from the pandemic. I can't believe I used to waste an hour or more of my time each week grocery shopping.

Wegmans house brands are consistent and priced well.

Meat, produce, and bakery are over the top greedy expensive.

Harris Teeter is cheaper if you shop the BOGO (at other stores means buy one get one, at HT means 50% off only one). Harris Teeter doesn't have abundant kohlrabi like Wegmans though.

Abundant Kohlrabi would be a great band name.

Stopped shopping at Wegmans. Prices seemed to go up consistently during the pandemic. Now it’s outrageous. I was a tried and true Wegmans shopper for a long time.

Tell me more about abundant kohlrabi!

Prices have gone up everywhere.

Their produce is consistently the freshest. Groceries are expensive everywhere right now.

I posted my favorites earlier but did want to agree that the produce is very high quality and one of the main reasons we shop there. It's on par with Whole Foods and cheaper in that regard. I find stuff spoils so fast from other stores.

I’m waiting for the Rockville one to open up.

OP here, thank you for the tips! I'll plan on looking at the produce and maybe prepared foods (when I went over the weekend we were getting takeout for dinner so I didn't want to get stuff to sit multiple days from the readymade section).

I've never had kohlrabi but maybe I should give it a shot.

Is the wine section comparable to Total Wine? I don't normally buy wine at grocery stores because so much of it seems like total junk (and overpriced).

I usually buy meat at Whole foods. Recently I decided to try the meat at Wegmans....never again!

I just ran in giant for toilet paper and spent $75 on basically nothing...

Really? I'm guessing it was a one-off. I only buy meat at Whole Foods and Wegmans and find the quality to be the same.

Not that OP asked, but I also want to say to people who are saying things like they don't get the big deal about Wegmans... Wegmans revolutionized the grocery store into what it is today. Having a pharmacy, florist, coffee bar, etc in your grocery store was not the standard before Wegmans began doing it. Now its commonplace. In the 80s and 90s Wegmans also had a video rental store and a photo developing counter so you could drop off film while you did your shopping, pick up dinner, a movie and your prescription. Grocery stores used to just have groceries and maybe a little cafeteria/ lunch counter. It is nothing like what you see today.

Wegmans is cheaper is you are looking for staples and regular food. But, not for meat. meat is overly expensive there.
But, Tostitos, cookies, coffee, ice cream, canned soups, even hygiene and beauty supplies will be on par with cheaper grocery stores and even Aldi.
It is definitely cheaper than Giant and HT and Safeway. I buy their deli ham. It is delish and cheap, give it a go. Their turkey lunch meats are also great price. And the fact that they have just about everything?
I mean, keto bar? Check. All flavors of Lara bars? Check. Any kind of chips you like? Check. Their food bar is way too expensive, even more so now that they are not actually doing it. Or did they start offering it again?
Their pasta sauce? Cheap, their canned tomatoes? Cheap. But, fresh produce? Expensive except for some bags of potatoes.
Usually Wegman's berries are fresh and good, not like the other stores where you pay to throw produce in the trash as soon as you get home.
