When did parent teacher conference days become teacher vacation days?

Wow...um that should be cause for termination.

Why even have PTC days on the calendar?

Which district has scheduled conference days on the calendar?

APS does - how do other districts handle it?

Fairfax doesn't have scheduled conference dates.

Yes, two days in the fall.

Not all schools. Both of my children’s schools stopped years ago in FCPS.

They are scheduled as teacher workdays but those are supposed to be for parent teacher conferences. You are allowed to request conferences for those days.

There’s no teachers, they aren’t terminating anyone. Teachers are doing these conferences at other non-contract times so it’s not wage theft.

LCPS has conference days and agree the teachers never use them. And no of course they don’t use leave to take those days off.

My conferences are always on conferences days but teachers also have to use non conference days because they run out of time (our teachers have 50 students)

And what do you think they’re using?

Why don't we just shorten the school year by 3-4 days? Win/Win Teachers and Families.

Why would I use a sick day when I’m Already chilling on that “conference” day? Lols

Who cares. I would do the same thing if I were a teacher. I would need a lot of days off if I had to be around 25 kids all day.

You should be thankful they’re not taking a day off work instead when your kid would have to have a sub, obviously.

It seems that a lot of people on DCUM like to find reasons to view FCC negatively but I find that despite the flaws, and there definitely are some, FCC is better than pretty much every other local school division in almost every way.

We're in APS. Our kids' conferences have always been during the day, but the schedules I've seen also go into the evening because the teachers have too many parents to fit in during regular hours.

When my mom was a teacher she taught all day and then stayed at school through 3-4 evenings for conferences. She didn't get paid extra for those weeks, or any of the extra time she put in. I'm glad school schedules have adjusted.

So they are giving up their early morning and evening hours to accommodate working parents - and you are complaining that they aren’t working during school hours?

I bet they are working during school hours to prep notes and then take care of follow-up’s from the conferences.

If they just has conferences available in-person, from 9-2, you would be mad as well. I hope Zoom and evening conferences last forever. I don’t have to take a day off work and if I do, we can go away for the weekend and just Zoom in for 20 min.
