Why was APE silent last night about ending Arlington's Virtual Learning Program?

Yet not a single one of them showed up at last night's meeting to express their support of the pause. Why the crickets now, APE, when what you wanted was up for a vote? I guess they knew they had it in the bag and it was better to be behind the scenes now, while VLP parents were begging the board not to pause the program.

What a strange question.

A question that would only be thought of, let alone posted, by someone who must be inexplicably and weirdly obsessed with APE and sitting around all day thinking about them.

So basically you wanted them to come gloat? Then you could complain about that?

Your APE bashing is getting old and I'm not even in APE.

This is a stupid post. Everyone knew VLP would fail. What l don’t understand about the parents who opted for this mess why they didn’t choose virtual Virginia. It’s so established and has a better more rigorous curriculum. No one from APE should waste their time on what we all knew from day 1 that this would be a disaster.

But it was going to be so traumatic for their children to not have their regular APS teachers and classmates....

I don’t really understand this post but curious about APE. The seem to be pushing some common sense ideas, no? Fwiw, I am less than impressed with APS so maybe that colors my view.

Maybe they said everything they needed?!
You need a new hobby.

Many people were very turned off by their actions last year. Now they are basically a lobbying organization getting ready to run a candidate for SB so they have formed all sorts of opinions on other things.

Some are pretty reasonable but these people don't have a lot of depth on the issues, so they get things wrong or miss the bigger needs. Overall they are a group of white high income families, and that really colors their views and advocacy.

This is my take as well. They are trying to position themselves for future political action. SB candidate. Endorsements. Something.

But it’s hard to take them seriously after their behavior last year. And the more newsletters they put out, the clearer it is that they don’t have deep knowledge.

Perfect! They will fit in with the rest of the SB members who all lack a “deep knowledge”!

Are the SB members publishing newsletters with "analysis" based on their inadequate knowledge?

I'm one of those people who was turned off in the beginning (I am APS staff) but I joined the group to get a better idea of what they were working towards and I think they actually have some good ideas and a decent balance of viewpoints, more than AEM or the APS group.

Most candidates have lacked a lot of depth on issues. Worse, they also just take a personal agenda and run with it or just repeat the popular things they think parents support.

No! I wish they would! At least then we'd be hearing from them about what's going on in APS and what they intend to do about it.

+1
I haven't joined or anything, but their AEM posts and newsletters are more informative than anything APS puts out. And groups can evolve, especially after a hasty initial organizing around one urgent issue. It takes time and good for them for continuing to advocate for the things they believe are important and would be in the interest of public education in Arlington. Where are any other groups that started around the same time - Smart Restart? and what are the critics on AEM doing?
