| Mary is so unlikeable. I’m still mad Sybil died. |
What? Sybil was nice but boring. Mary is a firecracker. |
Best scene ever was when Mary had to curtsey to Edith! |
| MAJOR PLOT TWIST AND POTENTIAL SPOILER -- Looks like Lord Grantham has changed his fidelity from yellow labs to golden retrievers! See 2:06 in the trailer. Historically accurate as well, as goldens were first recognized by the british kennel club in 1913, and then gained in popularity over the following decades... |
| Why does Lord Grantham have a tan?! |
A bad one at that. I'm looking forward to it. |
Mary is obnoxious and quite possibly my least favorite character in any PBS/BBC production. And I’ve pretty much seen every period drama they’ve produced in past 20 years. Daisy is a very close second. |
And Mary does those same ridiculous eyebrow movements as Emma Watson. I think Michele and Emma had same acting coaches. |
I don't see her as unlikable, just flawed but also way ahead of her time. She was a strong, intelligent woman who was bored in her role as an obedient daughter and wanted to be challenged and make progressive change within Dowton. She also just wanted the same respect her male counterparts were automatically given. |
I love you. Be my new best friend. |
NP. Eh, Mary got character development over time to show us why she was such a frosty bi%ch, and she thawed. And I give the series that credit even though I have issues with Julian Fellowes' writing (not just in Downton Abbey, either). The development's there if you look for it. Her initial obnoxiousness was the point of the character at the start, I think. |
Ugh, no, please don't mention any actors in comparison to Emma Watson. Poor kid seems intelligent and well-meaning as a person, but as an actress, she's not progressed. Michelle Dockery is actually a pretty versatile actress, if you've seen her in some of her other roles. |
| I love the first movie! Felt like an extended additional episode of the show. Can’t wait for this next one! |
Sybil was unrealistic as a character but handy for turning the show into a soap opera. She died because the actress wanted to leave the show. Mary was never supposed to be unlikeable. In many ways she catches the actual aristocratic mindset and mannerism the best of everyone outside Violet. Michelle Dockery is an excellent actress. |
I couldn't unsee that. |
