| What is wrong with trade school? |
Send him to Europe. Indian American cousins attended Edinburgh and LSE after striking out at t20s and ended up with way better experiences than you get at most t20s |

DP. OF is the only trade school "Fit and cute" girls need. On the job training with immediate customer feedback! Good to be female, I guess. |
I'm having similar thoughts, but wondering about re-insertion back into the US, either for employment or grad school. European undergrad programs are 3 years. Do US grad schools accept those? |
Nobody said not being in Honors at UMD or going to trade school is. OP is just astonished that there are so many kids with such great stats who aren’t getting into their choice of school. I get it. It’s sobering g to read these posts. One would think no one goes to college with all of the nervousness and stress. |
I'd definitely focus on improving SAT score. Her GPAs are fine for UMD. SAT isn't. |
| Actually, the military would be better. It would give her the opportunity to get away from you. She's doing fantastic. |

There are always schools like JMU.
People seem to like JMU lol |
Coincidentally, I JUST talked to him about Europe this afternoon! What program of study do your cousins (I'm assuming it's more than one person) do in England? What's the program of study (for the non LSE cousin)? |
|
Everyone who wants to go to college can. Every May NACAC puts out a list of all the colleges still accepting applications and there are solid schools on that list, although generally smaller schools.
I have no idea if OP's DD is competitive for UMD but she's certainly competitive for other nearby flagships that also give merit aid for OOS students -- Delaware and West VA come to mind. Plus plenty of other MD state schools like St. Mary's. People stress about a very, very small segment of colleges and it's ridiculous. |
| St. Mary's College of MD. It's a lovely little school! |
"Her Stats are 1300 and 4.61 W and 3.97 UW. " She's absolutely competitive to UMD! All she has to do is work on the SAT (or take the ACT). Plenty of time between now and next October to do that. |
Yes, she definitely is but some schools seem really unpredictable. Absolutely work on SAT/ACT prep but also spend time finding less competitive schools that you might love. Then, you have options. A kid with these stats seems to often apply to UMD as a safety and then a bunch of very highly selective (aka highly rejective) schools test optional and then surprised to have only UMD as a choice. UMD is great but a wave of rejections and the feeling like you aren't make a final decision can be depressing. |
Yes. Edinburgh and Lse are extremely respected and a known quantity. Though to be fair Edinburgh is 4 years (Scotland is 4 years not 3 like in the south) and a ton of Lse kids pick up a masters degree And stay another year or two so you end up on the same time line as American grads for international jobs One got a job at FAMANG and one got a job at a bulge bracket bank — both in nyc. |
