car wont start because of battery only?

It’s the battery. It has a bad cell.

Not likely. The car would die while he was driving home if it was the alternator

Not necessarily so.

Newer model vehicles are designed so that they never completely just shut off while in motion.

Likely an electrical system issue. Something in the system is drawing down power from the battery while you're stopped. I would take it into the dealership for servicing so they can run diagnostics. Given the recent age of your car, there's a very good chance this is still under warranty.

I checked the battery at home and it showed as 12.1 V which I believe is low. After about 30 minutes I decide to go to autozone and get a new battery. The car wont start again. The battery is only 2 years old and I am surprised the battery has already discharged enough that it wont start again this quickly after only 30 minutes of parking. I used a voltmeter and it shows 12.1 V which is low but then I went to my other car and it showed 12.2 (small sedan). should I be expecting the sedan to stop starting pretty soon also? Could there be something else that is wrong with the odyssey besides the battery? Thank you.

2019 should still be under warrenty. Why not take it in?

Just buy a new car, it will be easier for you.

I’ve noticed on my 2019 odyssey that I’m often pushing the button once - getting my kids strapped in - and then coming up front to actually start the engine.

I assume this behavior is similar to anyone who’s strapping kids into car seats. It might be 2-5mins of additional time the vehicle is ON but not running. So I’ve thought this could be the culprit of why my own battery drains out quicker than expected from time to time.

Whenever I sense a slow start I always let it idle for a long time and have a set of cables. It’s a good battery per volt and amp test but I still think those first 5mins of accessory on is doing some serious draining.

Op here; should have went to autozone; it was a dead battery, had to buy a $300 battery or spend another 2 hours trying to get another battery. Not covered by honda because over 36000 miles.

That sucks OP! My batter died recently and I called AAA, they came to my house and checked it and the battery was bad so they replaced it on the spot. It was like $175.

LOL, no. If the alternator is shot, there won't be any electricity to keep the car running once the battery runs out. There is no way around physics, yet.

This. This has been 100% worth the cost of AAA. And once, they had to replace the battery within 2y and it was still under warranty so it was free. Having AAA come to me and take care of the issue has been a lifesaver.

+1

I could not agree more.
I wasn’t working pretty much after March 2020 so wasn’t using my car very often.
Well when my battery 🔋 eventually kicked the bucket - I had AAA come out w/a brand-new one + installed it too.

Don’t know what I would do w/out The Auto Club membership.

Not for a dead battery. OP new cars typically come with a 2 year battery, which it sounds your are at the end of. Have it jumped again and take it to AutoZone, if you're unable to change it yourself.

How old is the battery in your sedan?

It's the starter.

or the ignition switch.

it's the ham and cheese you had last night.
