The kid needs speech therapy and parents working with them at home. What happens when it isn't the mask, parents didn't get the kid help and they struggle even more as they get older due to the lack of help. OP, if you will not pay for ST, call Childfind. In MoCo, there is a mask mandate. You can also hire a nanny. |
OP is trying to follow medical advice. No need for the pointless lecture. I hope you feel superior now |
NP. A doctor is not a speech therapist. A child with speech delay should be receiving services from either early intervention or private speech and have the parents also actively working on it at home . Preschools and daycares follow county regulations. And the clear masks don’t really work in practice which is why they are not commonly used. |

Just want to send you some love OP! My son has a speech delay too and I do think masks aren't helping. If you haven't already, I would definitely look into getting him into speech a couple of times a week. |
You'll find some that don't mask outdoors. The rest of your list might be tough. |

Catholics. Good luck. My heart hurts for you. |
You're here accusing OP of not getting services (which, we don't know if they are or are not and it's not the subject of the thread) because you can't handle the possibility that masks might be harmful for some children. Pathetic. |
This is going to be hard to find in MoCo, but a group of parents is working to advocate for mask-optional in the county and region. We are also fighting to decrease the crushing quarantine burden on families. Please see below for our groups, advocacy guides, and petition.

Plenty of in home daycares do not require masks for the kids, but guessing that is not what OP wants. I would think church based preschools might be more willing to relax masking when the state/county allows it. I suspect there are others, like my center (MCCA), that won’t even at that point. Too many parents very pro masking. Ours doesn’t require them outside anymore though. So those would be the two questions I’d ask- whether masks are required outside and their plan once the requirements change. |
What’s more pathetic is ignoring the fact that daycares are bound to follow county requirements. |
That’s not what was said at the daycare forum, they said the county only offers guidance. |
If your child truly has a speech issue and you can get the doctor to verify with a note, then it is not developmentally appropriate for your child to wear a mask and the county does not require it. Some schools may still choose to require it, but I would throw ADA stuff around and see what you can work out. Directors may be more flexible with this type of situation. The clear masks however, don't work. They fog up terribly almost immediately which defeats the purpose. Also, many providers are choosing to wear K95 masks or at least surgical masks as cloth masks were shown to be less effective against Omicron so the clear mask request may not be realistic. Good luck! |
I am confident that masks are not required outdoors by the county. Our preschool reinstated masks outdoors and every parent I know hates it (as do the teachers). I’m really really hoping that they drop the outdoor rule at our school soon although I’m hesitant to leave over it because they did drop it last summer so I have hope they will again. For what it is worth I don’t necessarily think masks cause speech issues but in our case they do dramatically impact understandability which is already low for a child with speech issues (even relatively mild ones). So I understand what you mean. |
