Outlander has tons of sex and violence!!! Seriously. There’s even graphic torture.

There's an entire episode of male on male rape and torture. Well done pp.

The Durrell’s in Corfu
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
Poirot (David Suchet version)
North and South
The Tudors
Cranford
Babylon Berlin (German with voice overs. So few people have heard of this, but it is brilliant)
BBC Jane Austen adaptations- Pride and Prejudice being the best!

The following are a little more violent, but since you like period pieces I enjoyed the following on netflix. I also don’t like watching violence/gore and fast forwarded thru some of the scenes.
Marco Polo
The Last Kingdom
The Medici’s
Rome (hbo)

Oh. I forgot to add in sci fi. Second the Star Trek TNG and Voyager recs. Deep Space Nine is truly the best one. It develops a story arc about 1/3 of the way through to the end of the show.
Battlestar Galactica may be verging on too violent, but it is a phenomenal show.
Babylon 5. Hands down the most well thought out show I have ever seen.

Concur on PP’s rec on Station Eleven. A little violence but minimal. Very thought provoking and moving.

Also love The Expanse. On Prime.

Though there is one character in the expanse who swears a lot.

Not sure if it’s your cup of tea, but I love watching Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. It’s just really light and pleasant.

My wife has the same issue and so it's hard sometimes for me to find our next TV show. Some that fit the bill that we liked:

Numb3rs
Mentalist (a little bit more gore than others, but still pretty good)
Stargate Universe (if you can tolerate SG-1 and Atlantis, which we did)
Eureka is really good
Warehouse-13
The Librarians
Dollhouse
The West Wing
The Newsroom
Leverage and Leverage Redemption
Farscape

and we are currently in the middle of Perception

I agree with Battlestar Galactica. I’d also try the Marvel series on Disney plus like Loki.

Have you watched Dr Who?
