They exist as Democrats today. Just quiet about it. District 3 and District 1 in particular. |

I did that about a month ago I -> D
It’s time to have a voice in the county. |
Those policies are driving some Ds to I. |
Just because it's easy doesn't mean I am willing to do it. I don't identfy as a Democract, so why would I pretend just to game the primary system? |
OP here. Thanks for the stats. That is very interesting. I know that not all of those 61% not registered Dems are centrist, but IMO, we can make a dent and move the county at least a little to the center. I actually don't want a far right county. That's not my goal at all. I just want some moderate politicians in the county. For those who are more to the right, having someone moderate is better than having someone who is far left. I stated the same during the POTUS elections to progressives to back Biden because having a more moderate Dem is better than having someone far right. If you are not going to move out of the county, and you are tired of the super left, then you need to make some concessions. Register as a D and vote in a moderate. |
Then you will continue to have uber left policies. If you are ok with that then this thread is not for you. |
She was pretty bog standard Republican: anti-gay, etc. |
Why do you vote? Local elections matter the most. Those politicians have the most, and swiftest impact on your lives (bag tax, energy tax, SRO removal, etc.). Do you just want to maintain a particular identity or do you want to make a difference? It sounds harsh, but I don't know how else to put it. |
So back then, there were no absolutes among the parties. You had pro-choice and anti-choice in both parties, for example. She was endorsed by the Log Cabin Republicans, and I don't think that would have happened if she was anti-gay. |
Thanks for starting discussion! I posted separately and it was combined here for obvious reasons… if you want to help move the needle more send me an email at lefttovote@gmail.com … I’m working on filing the paperwork for a 501c4 political non profit |
Don’t be stubborn, my friend. The label means nothing, it doesn’t change who you are or what you believe in. But In our county it will/may make a huge difference in who runs our county. You will have a meaningful say in the primaries and you can vote for any party you want in the general election. I don’t see a downside to switching. |
Curious, what will your org do to help "move the needle"? I am genuinely curious. I just checked out your FB page |
+1 Don't be so wedded to the word "R" or despise the word "Democrat". That serves no purpose. If you don't like the direction of the county going super left, you can have a say. Elrich won by 77 votes. There are definitely more than 77 moderate Rs/Independents here in MoCo who could've made the difference, including he ^PP. |
In Montgomery County it’s really stupid to go from D to I because you lose all your voice in local government. |
For now mostly spreading the word via social media. Once it’s an official non profit we can raise money and put up some ads and signs where all the politicians do to further spread the message to those that didn’t see it on social media. Long term goals involve open primaries or non partisan local elections (like the BoE where everyone can vote) as well as supporting measures that increase voter turnout. Well not be directly working with or supporting any campaigns |
