| I think what people don't realize is the (maybe not so?) silent majority of MoCo, unlike probably most everywhere else in the US, is strongly Covid-cautious and supports masking, distancing, and closures. For whatever reason that's the culture here and Elrich is their guy. As a 70 year old obese diabetic it makes sense for him, but I know lots of people in their 20s and 30s that wear masks constantly and are limiting gatherings. Its a different world. |
I think this is right, but I would probably reframe this as the majority of Democratic primary voters. County wide, as a whole, I think views are a lot more evenly split. But those folks on the other side are not likely Democratic primary voters. |
Elrich has almost single-handedly destroyed the police department, and that is, in part (and only in part) why there is an increase in very violent crime in the county. Progressives don't get that people need to be safe in order to even begin to thrive. |
| Is there a single candidate willing to stand up and say "enough" of COVID restrictions? Any candidate willing to say we do not need to wear masks in restaurants or shops or to "show your papers" when entering these establishments will have my vote. I'm not talking about the schools, mind you, as I think schools should be allowed to decide for themselves whether masks should be required to attend, and there are good enough reasons presently for them to continue doing so. But there is no reason to continue imposing such restrictions on a highly vaccinated adult population. |

I'll be voting for Blair.
But its not like I'm crazy enthusiastic about it. I was very excited when he announced his candidacy. But now....meh. But honestly, it can't be Elrich |
| Blair. If he loses the primary, I will vote for the Republican candidate. Moderate Democrat here. |
This is a very good point. And tbh, I was in that MoCo bubble for a long time as well, and its not until you spend sometime outside that MoCo bubble (which Covid allowed us to do), that you realize just how different MoCo is from almost anywhere else in the country. To almost everybody outside of MoCo, Elrich would seem like a nut. But in MoCo, his views align with a large portion of the population. At the end of the day, I think he'll get a second term. But it'll be close. And it will, once again, be due in part to those opposing him split their votes amongst the other candidates Remember how Trump won the nomination because none of the other dummies would drop out? That's what's going to happen again with Elrich |
| I will be voting for Blair. It is time for a change in this county. |

Not Elrich.
I was considering Riemer because he seems to be the only one who spoke out though tepidly about keeping schools open. However, I read his op ed in the WaPo about supporting a vaccine mandate for county employees (which I agree with) but was really turned off by his statement that we need to have "shared sacrifice" to get through the pandemic which included references to his friends losing jobs. No thanks. How about we start with him? That is typical white liberal elitist thinking that I cannot stand. |
That basically sums him up. |
He’s awful. The problem is they are all awful and completely out of touch with the real world. |
He’s had some help from the county council. I’m convinced the lot of them have realized they can make MCPD into a convenient monster they can then slay for political purposes. Current council members gleefully vilify police. I hope there is one candidate who will work with the dept instead of actively against it. |
You also have to add to that, thanks to Riemer, that the county has had a decade long development policy of incentivizing poor people to move here who are more likely to commit crimes. It’s just unfortunately true and the main reason why I voted for Elrich last time was because he specifically said that he didn’t want prioritize development policy for poor people to move here. He took flack for it at the time but here we are reaping what Riemer had sowed. |
Almost guaranteed that those friends were made up. Hans lies a lot. |

I want to know why Blair didn’t get involved in local politics after he lost the last county executive primary.
Riemer switched his stance on the Beltway, which shows stupidity on his part. If Blair has a satisfactory, thought out, and action-plannable answers to the policy questions he’ll be getting and if he’s against Beltway expansion, I’ll consider voting for him. |
