Wife Keeps Pushing Me To Go Vegan

OP here. Most of that meat is very unhealthy and just processed crap. Many “organic” or vegan labeled food is just processed junk and not any healthier than the conventional products.

OP here. I have and she has told me I’m close minded and I need to just try it with her. She tells me she feels unsupported on her journey and that I should be more willing to give it a try. It’s important to her and she would do the same for me. I don’t think we need to eat the same thing as a couple. I support her and her journey, but that doesn’t mean I need to stop eating the foods I want to eat.

OP here. No. We are both a healthy weight and workout 5-6 times a week.

OP here. No. The thing is we always ate very healthy and a mostly plant focused diet. I don’t really cut anything out but we mainly ate lean protein, veggies, fruits, complex carbs, and healthy fats.

A typical day of eating. I’m 6’1”, 190lbs.

Breakfast: 3 pastured raised eggs fried or scrambled in 1-2tbsp Kerrygold butter, two pieces whole grain toast, and a side of fruit or a veggie egg scramble with a side of fruit, or oatmeal with fruit and nuts.

Snack: Yogurt with granola, hard boiled eggs, nuts, protein shake, smoothie, etc.

Lunch: Leftover or a large salad with tons of vegetables, protein from meat or beans, and avocado. Sometimes a side sandwich or a side of crackers and hummus if I’m super hungry.

Snack: Same as other snacks. I try to mix things up throughout the day.

Dinner: Lean protein, vegetables, and a salad or carb.

We only order out maybe once a week and will make pancakes for breakfast over the weekend. I don’t eat much red meat and we don’t drink expect for the occasional glass of red wine or beer 1-2 times a month.

It’s settled. You are even more annoying than your vegan wife

You could try it, as a gesture to her. I think I could do without meat for ever, but milk? Aaaah, that would be VERY hard.

OP here. I don’t drink milk. I eat yogurt, use butter for eggs or toast, and sometimes eat cheese but thats it.

What in the heck. Is she always this insecure?

Just tell her, thanks but I am on my own journey and I need you to respect that.

Pet peeve — when people force their “journeys” on others. It’s nice that she got enlightened but she should munch that salad in her spare time. Is this like an ethical, ideological, or spiritual thing for her?

DP. Might have to do with mentioning the kind of butter and eggs you ingest, just a guess. Though I’m partial to those myself.

You don’t need to justify your diet to anyone else.

If you want reassurance from internet strangers that it's ok for you to eat whatever the hell you want, you got it.

Too much snacking. In general broad strokes, most vegans are healthy and most vegetarians are really fat. Pick your team.

My family does Meatless Mondays. This is mostly for me to get away from my husband wanting red meat almost every meal (tell your wife that and maybe she will consider herself lucky).

Maybe you guys could do a Vegan Monday?

And FWIW, everyone in my family likes different things. Both my husband and I cook. We often cook a primary meal item that we each like and then supplement with a couple of different veggies or a starch, etc. So tehre is a pretty big choice at the dinner table each night. And people eat what they want from that.

So a dinner might be the lemon garlic panfried salmon and asparagus I make, and my husband makes an okra/beef/tomato sauce dish he likes. A salad, and sometimes I make a starchy side dish of some sort. There are almost always two different proteins and two different veggies to choose from.

It absolutely is more work. No doubt. But fewer fights. And the plus side is our kids love a bunch of different types of foods.

Most plant based meats are unhealthy. It’s basically a bunch of oils and salt.

Clearly an uninformed opinion.

I’m of the mind of your wife and I think you are doing great. I like on PP idea on vegan day but other than that you should be able to decide. You already eat very similar/healthy.

I finally got mine, along with dr, to stop red meat. My dh feels great that he now only eats chicken Small steps.
