Grocery store dystopia....

I went to Wegmans yesterday and they had everything, although a little low on dairy and meat. But still had it. And I went to Fresh Market today and got chicken, ground beef, and eggs.

Giant is a mess.

I did my weekly shopping at a Safeway in Rockville this morning, and it was mostly normal. Low on chicken breast and no half and half/cream, but everything else looked to be fully stocked.

It's the Saturday before a mess of a storm. What did you expect????

My husband stupidly found a need to go this morning, and complained of the crowds. After I'd told him not to go and why...

Its worse actually because of the supply chain shortages and works out in processing plants and there's apparently a recall on fresh produce for some reason.

I went to the Trader Joe's on Wisconsin at 2 pm today. I was seriously questioning my judgement just based on the parking lot, but it was pretty much fine.

They were restocking like crazy. Definitely some holes - bread was pretty wiped out. Frozen foods were either fully there or totally not, and that's where most of the restocking I saw was happening so they were definitely behind the curve. The only thing I couldn't get that I really wanted was chicken stock, but I can walk tomorrow to a couple of options and I'll be fine.

We haven’t had any issues at all. Sometimes something random isn’t available but it’s been like that since the beginning of the pandemic.

If in year 3 of a pandemic, you haven’t figured out how to shop in advance and keep staples on hand, well, you are beyond help.

What a stupid comment. Like Joe Biden personally controls the supply chain and Covid absences. Weak. PP is on the Food forum complaining about the current uncompromised president. Is this all you have to do?

I went for my normal weekly shop today and was able to get everything except the brand of tortilla chips I wanted. Which was a huge difference from Trump's pandemic year.

Considering the DC area is in peak Omicron and sandwiched between two winter storms, I think the selection was much better than expected. The truckers and food suppliers and grocery staff are working as hard as they can.

On the plus side, I went to a store that has started closing earlier to give their staff time to restock and deal with staff illness. This seems to be working for them.

I’ve been to HT and 2 different Safeways in the past few days, and the only thing I couldn’t find from my lengthy list was fresh ginger. The salad section was bare in spots, but there were options.

You obviously haven’t been keeping up with the news. I’ve been to multiple grocery stores on several different days over the last couple of weeks, and they were all out of milk and large sections of produce were empty. It’s temporary, but it’s happening.

It is periodic and overblown. I’ve been in Whole Foods— one brand of yogurt was out of stock. I’ve been in Giant—nothing missing. I’ve been to Mom’s—nothing missing. Target has been out of onions.

You might want to start shopping locally if this really worries you. I buy all my meat and eggs from local farmers.

You know all 6 million of us in the DC metro area can’t do this, right? The logistics don’t work.

Also, why would anyone need to go to target, WF, giant, and mom’s in a week? Is grocery shopping a hobby?

This is such a clueless, out of touch comment.
